Stiles and Lydia were the will they/won’t they couple of Teen Wolf. Fans campaigned for them for years, and there were times when it seemed as if the future of their relationship was truly up in the air. Unlike the other pairings, it took six seasons for the two of them to finally confess their feelings for each other and act on them.

Their relationship evolved from a one-sided childhood crush to a deep friendship between young adults. Stiles became Lydia’s best friend and confidant, and even Scott took notice of the strong connection between them. Stiles and Lydia’s relationship was built from the bottom up, and there are plenty of scenes that make them stand out above the other couples.

10 Stiles Visits Lydia In Eichen House

Just because Lydia couldn’t hear him didn’t mean Stiles wasn’t going to be there for her. While trapped in a catatonic state, Lydia received a visit from Stiles who sat by her side and held her hand.

He talked to her like he normally would, and he even asked Lydia if she could wake up and explain the Riemann hypothesis to him. Sadly, it was going to take a lot more than that to snap her out of it, and once he realized that Lydia wasn’t safe, he hatched a plan to break her out of the institution.

9 Stiles Frees Lydia From The Beartrap

Following the events of Teen Wolf Season 3 Part 1, Stiles couldn’t tell the difference between what was real and what was a dream. He’s unable to read and he appears to be experiencing symptoms similar to dyslexia. When Lydia finds herself caught in a bear trap, it’s up to Stiles to disarm it.

He can’t read the instructions on the bottom, but Lydia assures him that he doesn’t need them. She reminds him that he’s always the one who figures things out, and Lydia’s complete faith in him is admirable. After Stiles manages to free her, they hug and let out a sigh of relief. But one thing that is easily overlooked, is that after Lydia’s pep talk, Stiles is able to read again.

8 Lydia And Stiles Miss Each Other

Because viewers were well aware of Stiles’s existence, it was difficult to watch the characters make Lydia feel like she was going crazy. Despite being right about everything, she was constantly talked down to and treated like her words held no weight.

When she finally breaks down and cries where Stiles’s room used to be, Stiles also slides down the wall of the station at the same moment. Stiles is thinking of Lydia at the same time she’s thinking of him, and the split-screen exemplifies how close they are despite being literal worlds apart.

7 Stiles Tells Lydia He Believes In Her

There’s no rule book that teaches somehow how to be a banshee, and Lydia had no guidance while she attempted to navigate her powers. Lydia has always been a genius, and she’s able to pick up on things much faster than anyone else. But everyone deals with self-doubt and Lydia is no different.

When her prediction appeared to be wrong, she felt guilty for leading Stiles astray and getting him in trouble. Stiles reassured her by letting Lydia know that he believed in her. There might not have been any proof that Barrow was at the school, but he was confident that Lydia was right.

6 Stiles Rescues Lydia From Eichen House

It wasn’t easy, but after running around Eichen House, fighting supernatural guards, and creating a brownout, things began to fall into place. Stiles had been desperate to find a way to get to Lydia, and they had finally taken down all the obstacles in their path.

“Find My Way Back,” by Eric Arjes plays in the background, and the way Lydia looks at Stiles speaks volumes. The cinematography in the scene adds an extra level of intensity, as Stiles runs towards her in slow motion with his flannel flying behind him like a cape.

5 Lydia And Stiles Are Emotional Tethers

Stiles was right when he told Lydia that they had an unspoken connection. When a sacrifice requires someone to be Stiles’s emotional tether, Deaton gives Lydia the job. Not only was it interesting that he picked up on something between them, but it spoke volumes about their relationship.

Stiles and Lydia had just become real friends, and whether it was romantic or not, Stiles and Lydia’s connection was strong enough to bring Stiles back from the dead. The best thing about their relationship is that they understood each other on a profound level.

4 Stiles Begs Lydia To Wake Up

Stiles was often the more sarcastic and cynical member of the group, but when he was around Lydia he turned into a completely different person. Dylan O’Brien’s incredible portrayal of the character contributed to Stiles’ range of emotions, and he treated Lydia as though she was the most precious thing in the world to him.

He never displayed the same tenderness and vulnerability with anyone else. Stiles begging Lydia to wake up was absolutely gut-wrenching, but it also showed that she was irreplaceable to him. His desperation might have been hard to watch, but the way they looked at each other when Lydia woke up made it all worth it.

3 Lydia And Stiles Reunite

The entire season (and series) was leading up to this moment. Stiles might have confessed his feelings for Lydia, but he was taken before she had a chance to respond. While viewers were aware of Lydia’s feelings, the assumption was that Stiles had no clue.

However, he proves that he knows Lydia better than anyone when he tells her he didn’t need her to say “I love you,” back. It’s not clear whether Stiles recently picked up on her feelings, or if he’d known for quite some time, but he let her come to the conclusion on her own. As great as their kiss was, the hug that followed was a reminder that while they were in love, they were also best friends.

2 Lydia Kisses Stiles To Stop His Panic Attack

Stiles and Lydia’s kiss is so beautiful because there was no lust behind it. Whatever was between them turned out to be much deeper than either of them realized. Lydia ran out of ideas to stop Stiles’s panic attack and kissed him as a last resort. However, what started off as a distraction morphed into two people connecting in an unexpected way.

Everything about the scene was beautiful, including the light shining behind them. Stiles and Lydia both looked as if they were in a trance when they pulled away, almost like they were trying to hold on to what had just transpired.

1 Stiles Tells Lydia He Loves Her

There’s one moment that sticks out above all the others for Stydia fans, and it was the three words, eight letters they had been waiting six years for. Out of all the things Stiles could have told Lydia, he gave her one simple thing to remember him by. Lydia was in tears when she realized she was going to forget Stiles, so he reminisced about their happiest memories.

Stiles taking Lydia back to the beginning was an emotional journey for everyone, and Lydia being his first dance ever somehow made them even purer. Stiles used his last few seconds to comfort Lydia and asked her just to remember that he loves her.
