Disney Channel’s Halloweentown is many people’s favorite classic Halloween movie, and it’s full creatures, some more terrifying than others.

Disney’s Halloweentown is perhaps one of Disney Channel’s most underrated original movies. Serving as a complete celebration for the fall holiday, this world of witches and wizards may seem a little dated now, but still carries with it the spirit and excitement of Halloween.
The initial movie sparked a whole host of sequels that explored this strange world of ghouls and ghosts more. While the character and creature design varied throughout, there were some truly spooky monsters and characters that really sold the idea that this town really did celebrate Halloween all year round.
10 The Junkman
Gorm was introduced in the second film with an interesting concept. Every time something goes missing, whether it’s an odd sock, a spare pair of headphones, or perhaps even the car keys, they end up at Gorm’s place.
He’s described as a Junkman with a terrible temper. While he is mostly human in appearance, he does have slightly different ears. The spookiest part about him is the idea that there is some kind of creature lurking ready to snatch up lost belongings.
9 Witches
A huge part of the Halloweentown production is based upon a family of witches. With Marnie, her sister, mother and grandma all possessing the abilities of a witch, they lead the story as the audience journey to Halloweentown with them.
The main leads as witches takes down the spookiness factor of the characters a lot. There are a few other witches throughout the franchise that exhibit some evil behavior, but the general use of warts and broomsticks drastically takes down the spooky factor.
8 Elves
While it’s probably not a Halloween costume most kids would choose, considering it mainly consists of slightly larger than life ears, the elves of Halloweentown are mostly harmless and just one of the many mythical residents.
While their appearance does spark some questioning if they were to ever be seen in the real world, they probably wouldn’t cause too much of a fright, until of course, they started to exhibit behavior that didn’t feel of Earth.
7 Trolls
Trolls feel like the next step on the “scary” ladder from elves. They display the same over the top ears, but their noses are more exaggerated and many of them have completely different skin colors, such as this pink troll, Natalie.
This is a slightly spookier character and while the idea of trolls here is still kept quite kid-friendly, meeting one in a dark alley on Halloween night could cause quite the fright, as it’s unclear what kinds of mischievous magic they are capable of.
6 Goblins
Much like elves, it would be easy to mistake a goblin as a human on first glance. Their misshapen ears and nose are a classic sign that they aren’t quite human though. What’s more, goblins have some spooky assumptions made about them.
Goblins are usually portrayed as grotesque and sly in their behavior. The goblins of Halloweentown initially give off this vibe, although they aren’t quite as spooky as some of the other monsters later on this list.
5 Skeletons
The Halloweentown franchise is really brought to life when Benny is placed on screen. As soon as this talking skeleton opens its mouth, Halloweentown defined exactly what it wanted to be.
This character would definitely freak out a lot of people, especially when they realize that there isn’t some kind of robot or other technological explanation behind these talking bones, but instead, in classic Halloween fashion, this is a real skeleton.
4 Forest Giants
Forest giants are perhaps one of the scariest looking creatures in the film. On a dark and autumnal night, meeting a forest giant in the middle of the woods would likely scare any person of any age.
Finding out that it isn’t a mask that gives the creature its blue complexion would likely freak someone out, as this is the kind of creature that kids are told about to scare them. Of course, in reality, these giants are actually quite harmless.
3 Werecats/Wolves
There’s a number of werewolves and werecats across Halloweentown that are equally spooky. However, the werewolves are very different in design to the werecats, with the feline features definitely setting them apart.
The characters could be some of the scariest in the town and humans would absolutely freak out if they were let loose across regular America. Werewolves, especially, have been a symbol of Halloween for some time.
2 Gremlins
Whether it’s the green skin, pointed nose and chin, the fish-like ears or the terrifying aura, there’s something just scary about a gremlin. It doesn’t matter how friendly they are, they are one of the creepiest creatures in the town.
The design elements of the character combine a number of different horrible choices from a variety of Halloween monsters. The result is something that would freak out kids and adults alike if they were to bump into a goblin.
1 Warlocks
Warlocks have been the villains of most of the Halloweentown movies, demonstrating that they can be quite terrifying and not easily trusted. They often choose creepy masks to spread their power of fear further.
Halloween movies have to rely on these kinds of villains to really creep out the audience. Even though this is a kids film, warlocks, like Kalabar, are just straight-up horrible, with his dark magic and penchant for creating a terrifying spectacle.
