In fact, there are loads of movies that fans don’t ever want to see again despite how beloved they are, and cinephiles on Reddit have a lot of opinions about which movies make the list. Between depressing but historically valuable war films and deeply disturbing and grotesque French thrillers, Redditors have never been happier and sadder for a movie to end.

Schindler’s List (1993)

A movie about concentration camps in Poland doesn’t exactly scream fun, as Schindler’s List is a gruelingly realistic depiction of the most disturbing part of World War II. It isn’t just unsettling, the movie is also three hours and 15 minutes in length, making it such a long time for audiences to become emotionally exhausted.

Conscious-Glass6922 explains that the movie is “so dark and sad that I’m not sure I would sit through it again.” But at the same time, it’s a must-watch Best Picture Academy Award winner and a valuable history lesson.

We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011)

Influenced by real-life school shootings in America, We Need To Talk About Kevin follows two parents coming to terms with the actions of their son. MilesToHaltHer thinks it’s a masterclass in storytelling, but is still a movie that anybody who has seen once should avoid for the rest of their lives.

The Redditor explains that it’s “such a heartbreaking movie,” and that they “don’t want to go through that again.” The movie’s finale is completely disturbing, as it follows Kevin as he methodically murders his fellow students. It also sees John C. Reilly giving a rare dramatic performance, but that isn’t enough to make anybody want to watch it a second time.

Dancer In The Dark (2000)

Dancer In The Dark is a musical and one of the most powerful movies of the 2000s. That’s the general consensus too, as the movie is Lars Von Trier’s second-best movie according to IMDb. However, just because it’s a musical doesn’t mean it’s fun.

Mudders_Milk_Man remembers that Dancer “left me depressed for days.” The movie is about a woman who is slowly losing her eyesight until she eventually turns completely blind. She saves as much money as she can for an operation for her son so that he doesn’t suffer from the same condition, only for the money to be stolen by one of the few people she trusts.

Kids (1995)

Kids features one of the most despicable lead characters in history, as the film follows Telly, who is HIV positive and attempts to sleep with as many girls as possible. He isn’t the only teenager who is up to no good, as his best friend is a shoplifter and rapist.

Reddit user John_McClane12 mentions that the 1995 movie “has stuck with me more than Requiem for a Dream.” Requiem is another disturbing movie full of drugs and desperation, and the two movies are just as sickening as each other, both of them tackling the boredom of urban life and the disturbing behaviors and actions it can produce.

American History X (1998)

It takes a lot to not be taken aback by the contents of American History X. Derek is vile and extreme racism runs through his blood. Simply the impassioned way he talks about his neo-nazi beliefs is enough to make anyone feel sick. But it’s his abhorrent actions that Redditor Dramoriga specifically mentions make the movie impossible to return to.

The Redditor calls American History X a “fantastic film that really rocked me with the curb scene.” The scene in question is beyond violent and disturbing and speaks to how racist he is, as the sirens of the police didn’t even keep him from doing it.

Uncut Gems (2019)

Uncut Gems is arguably one of the best movies produced by Martin Scorsese, and with that in mind, it’s no surprise that it’s reminiscent of the celebrated director’s gritty early works like Taxi Driver and Mean Streets. But the difference is that the 2019 movie is so fast-paced and doesn’t once slow down.

The film is the ultimate sweaty palms movie, which is why KydRapid won’t watch it a second time. The Reddit user says that they “loved the movie and the cinematography but it was just pure stress the entire time.” As charismatic jeweler Howard makes one huge life mistake after another, it leaves viewers holding their breath until they almost pass out.

Irreversible (2002)

Irreversible is played backward, as it begins with the final scene and ends with the first. And although Memento did it first, the Christopher Nolan-directed movie is nowhere near as tense or exhausting as the 2002 film. The movie is directed by Gaspar Noe, who is known for his ultraviolence and psychedelic imagery, but Irreversible features two of the most unforgettable moments in the director’s filmography.

RainbowDissent explains that they are “shockingly brutal and unflinching long scenes with no respite or cutaway.” And the Redditor is right. It’s a horrific film that’s tough to watch even once, but it’s also a gripping tale of revenge.

The Mist (2007)

As most of The Mist is a fairly run-of-the-mill monster movie but still terrifically made horror flick, the ending elevates it to an all-timer. It’s one of the creepiest bug movies, but nobody saw the shocking ending coming, including Redditor Willhelmstarscream, who says that the “ending made me ill.”

When David, his friends, and his son run out of gas and are surrounded by monsters, they all agree that the easy way to end their lives is to take their own lives with a pistol. Unfortunately, there are five of them and only four bullets. David kills his friends and son, but the mist then dissipates, and the army has come to the rescue, meaning that David killed his son right before he would have been rescued.

Enter The Void (2009)

From the very start of the movie, Enter The Void’s opening credits catches audiences off guard, as it’s an assault on the senses with its flashing visuals and intense techno music. But it somehow manages to get more unsettling with each consecutive scene.

Again directed by Gaspar Noe, the film follows a drug dealer who is murdered in a dingy club toilet, but he watches over his family and friends in the afterlife. Reddit user Bromanager thought Enter The Void had “amazing cinematography but once was enough.” It’s unsurprising, as things don’t exactly get better for his family after his death, and instead go from bad to worse.

Life Is Beautiful (1997)

The Italian 1997 movie Life Is Beautiful is genuinely one of the most beautiful films ever made, which is ironic, given that it’s about war. When a Jewish father and son are captured and put in a concentration camp, the father keeps his son from knowing what’s really going on by pretending the whole thing is a game.

Piscian19 calls the movie “equal parts funny and horrifying. It’s a really, really rough watch.” The most heartbreaking moment comes at the end of the movie when the father and son are separated from each other, and it’ll leave audiences with tears streaming down their faces.
