Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia has been widely acclaimed since its release in 2014, and critics praised the manga’s diverse cast and engrossing action sequences. While there have been a few complaints about the shonen-esque pattern followed by the plot, My Hero Academia builds on its strengths “with incredibly rich character development.”

Gigantomachia is a minor character in My Hero Academia, although his tall stature towers over most of his environment. Very little is known about this cryptic entity, except that he is the original template for the Nomu. Gigantomachia is humanoid in the loosest sense of the term and wields multiple Quirks simultaneously, making him an exceptionally formidable enemy.

No Pro Hero has been able to defeat Gigantomachia. Even Best Jeanist’s Fiber Master fails to restrain him for more than a few minutes. Gigantomachia holds the key to the past deep within his modified genes, explaining why he keeps recurring throughout the story.

9 Koji Koda Comes Out Of His Timid Shell With Enormous Emotional Support

Koji Koda only embraces the full range of his abilities after Kyoka pushes him to his limits. He controls animals, birds, and insects by communicating with them through his Anivoice Quirk, and avoids speaking to human beings as much as possible.

Koji is a sidelined side character, a patently absurd status quo that bothers him as well as the audience. He eventually comes out of his timid shell, albeit with enormous emotional support from his friends. Whether Koji makes a name for himself in the Final Act Saga remains to be seen.

8 Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu’s Seemingly Counterintuitive Characteristics Make Him A Refreshing Character

Tetsutetsu is Class 1-B’s answer to 1-A’s Red Riot – he is a carbon copy of Eijiro Kirishima with respect to both personality and technique. Tetsutetsu’s Quirk transforms his epidermis into unbreakable steel, much like Kirishima’s Hardening.

This character is particularly refreshing due to his reckless habits and straightforward mentality, a seemingly counterintuitive combination of traits. Tetsutetsu’s blossoming friendship with Kirishima is equally heartwarming; it shows that birds of a feather flock together more often than not.

7 Yawara Chatora’s Mere Presence Undermines Gender Conventions

Yawara Chatora, more popularly known as the Pro Hero Tiger, is an integral part of the Wild, Wild Pussycats. His mere presence in a stereotypically ‘feminine’ setting undermines gender conventions in My Hero Academia society. Tiger wears his team’s uniform with pride, including a skirt and a bell.

He expects his trainees to achieve “Plus Ultra,” breaking them down to build them back up stronger than ever. His intensity and vigor terrify Deku beyond words, but the latter quickly realizes the value in Tiger’s severe training style.

6 Tenya Ida Is The Guiding Light Of Class 1-A

Tenya Ida might be a side character, but his sincerity and sportsmanship are classic characteristics of anime protagonists. Although he is initially depicted as overly strict and zealous, Tenya’s softhearted nature reveals itself almost immediately. His exaggerated histrionics are thoroughly endearing to everyone, including his friends, his allies, and the My Hero Academia fandom.

Tenya is the guiding light of Class 1-A, a leader who never balks from a fight while simultaneously ensuring the safety of his classmates. His desire to fulfill his family legacy compels Tenya to take on the Ingenium mantle after his brother’s retirement.

5 Himiko Toga Is A Deeply Flawed And Fascinating Paradox

Himiko Toga is a primary antagonist in the story, though her association with the League of Villains is questionable at best. She adores Twice more than anyone else. His unexpected death deals her a massive emotional blow, pushing her to her breaking point.

Himiko emits a gleefully radiant aura at any given point, especially when she’s around Uraraka and Deku. While audiences are frequently flummoxed by her inexplicably buoyant persona, they have grown to love Himiko for the fascinating paradox she is.

Toya Todoroki, or Dabi to anime-only fans, is Endeavor’s firstborn son. He survives his father’s cruelty and accidental self-cremation to become one of the strongest villains in My Hero Academia. Dabi’s complicated past is littered with pain and suffering, explaining why fans sympathize with his experiences.

Dabi transcends his side character status after broadcasting his father’s crimes to the world, but his narrow-minded motivations prevent him from reaching main character territory. In his defense, Dabi isn’t exactly boring.

2 Chizome Akaguro’s True Personality Emerges When He Escapes From Tartarus

Hero Killer: Stain unleashes mayhem on the citizens of Hosu city, hunting down and killing Pro Heroes left and right. He severely injures Ingenium, prompting Tenya to chase after him for revenge. Despite his apparent lack of compassion, there is some merit to Stain’s diluted philosophy.

He rejects the very foundation of heroism as self-serving caprice and claims that All Might is the only hero worth his salt. Stain’s true personality emerges when he escapes Tartarus as he chooses to help All Might instead of teaming up with All For One.

1 Yuga Aoyama Promises To Help U.A. Defeat The League Of Villains

Recent manga chapters have revealed Yuga Aoyama to be the long-awaited “U.A. Traitor,” but the story clarifies that he never wanted to betray his friends in the first place. As a flamboyant comic relief character, Yuga’s relevance to the narrative is intentionally downplayed, probably to magnify the impact of his inevitable unmasking.

He is wracked with guilt and shame upon being caught by Deku and promises to help U.A. in the fight against All For One and the League of Villains. With this in mind, Yugo Aoyama is the best side character of My Hero Academia.
