The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic marks the fourth generation of the My Little Pony franchise overall. While it’s marketed as a kid’s show and undoubtedly caters to them the most, the series garnered an incredibly large and loyal adult fanbase as well. It’s easy to see why—it’s a calming and incredibly upbeat show that helps melt away some of the stresses of everyday adult life.

One of the aspects of Friendship Is Magic that stands out the most is the musical numbers that are woven into many of the episodes. And unlike many series where random singing can feel like just that, and are typically disliked, My Little Pony manages to incorporate songs that are fun, catchy, and easily remixable by the older audience members with the skills to do so.

10 In Our Town (The Cutie Map – Part 1)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“In Our Town” is the first song of Season 5, and it’s one of, if not the creepiest song in the entire series. Starlight Glimmer is singing about how every pony is equal because they all simply emulate one another and don’t have anything that make them special.

Starlight circles around Twilight and the other members of the Mane Six as she sings, with each member becoming more and more uncomfortable as the song goes on. Though Starlight tries to sing the praises of such a system, certain lines stand out as especially heartbreaking, such as “you can’t have a nightmare if you never dream.”

9 Smile Song (A Friend In Deed)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

Pinkie’s Smile Song is one of four songs that appears in “A Friend In Deed,” and it’s arguably the best out of all of them. Pinkie sings about how much joy is brought to her life through helping other ponies, and it’s incredibly catchy to boot.

Pinkie—who typically is always cheery—even notes during the song that some days will be dark and lonely, but it’s not so bad, and happiness is always waiting on the other side. It’s sharply contrasted by the rest of the episode, in which she tries and fails repeatedly to get Cranky Doodle Donkey, a newcomer to Ponyville, to crack a smile.

8 Pinkie’s Lament (Pinkie Pride)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

Pinkie’s Lament is one of a whopping six songs featured in the episode “Pinkie Pride.” It’s a standout song for Pinkie in that it’s of a completely different tone than all of her other songs.

While most of Pinkie’s songs do reference the dark or scary side of life, it’s always followed up by saying things aren’t so bad or that laughter can dispel anything scary. In Pinkie’s Lament, however, she’s downbeat for the entire song as she questions whether party planning is for her.

7 I’ve Got To Find A Way (Magical Mystery Cure)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“I’ve Got To Find A Way” is the third of seven songs that appear during the Season 3 finale, “Magical Mystery Cure.” While performing a new spell, Twilight accidentally swaps the cutie marks and overall destinies of her friends—but as it’s not what they’re truly destined to do, disaster befalls all five of them.

Twilight laments over having ruined the destinies of all of her friends and is even seen crying in a particularly vulnerable moment for the unicorn. Thankfully, all is wrapped up by the end of the episode and Twilight ends up becoming an alicorn.

6 So Many Wonders (The Cutie Mark Chronicles)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“So Many Wonders” details the process of Fluttershy obtaining her Cutie Mark. She’s supposed to be the referee for Rainbow Dash’s race up in Cloudsdale, but ends up getting knocked off the cloud and falls to Ponyville.

Once there, she sings about what a magical place the ground is and states that if she knew how magical it was before, she would’ve come sooner and never left. Her newfound animal friends can be seen singing alongside her, and it’s an adorable song overall.

5 At The Gala (The Best Night Ever)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“At The Gala” is the first of three songs that appear in the Season 1 finale, “The Best Night Ever.” Each member of the Mane Six gets their own role detailing exactly how they believe their Grand Galloping Gala experience will make it the best night ever.

Of course, reality and expectations don’t line up for any of them, and all six ponies end up disappointed. By the end of the episode, they realize that instead of focusing on their own individual endeavors, they should’ve just spent the night together.

4 The Failure Song (The Crystal Empire – Part 1)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“The Failure Song” is the first of two songs that appear in the Season 3 premiere, “The Crystal Empire – Part One.” Twilight is given a test from Princess Celestia, but it’s unlike anything she’s undertaken before.

Being the perfectionist that she is, Twilight begins to panic over whether she’ll be good enough and be able to pass in the first place. Much of the song also features improved animation from previous seasons, and it’s incredibly catchy to boot.

3 Bats (Bats!)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“Bats” appears in the aptly-named episode “Bats!” and is the only song in the series in which Applejack and Fluttershy are at odds with one another. Applejack is sick and tired of vampire bats destroying her orchard.

On the other hand, Fluttershy argues that they’re just trying to sustain themselves and raise families and that the apple seeds they leave behind will actually grow into stronger trees faster. It’s an incredibly catchy song as well as one of the more memorable, simply because members of the Mane Six usually don’t fight in musical numbers.

2 Winter Wrap Up (Winter Wrap Up)

The 10 Best Songs From My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic

“Winter Wrap Up” appears in the Season 1 episode of the same name. It’s Twilight’s first Winter in Ponyville, and she wants to help contribute as all of the townsfolk gather together to clean up Winter and usher in Spring for the year.

She sings about how she has no clue how she’s going to contribute if she isn’t able to use her magic to do so, and the other members of the Mane Six get roles as well. By the end of the episode, she realizes that helping the other ponies stay organized is how she can help out, rather than assisting with any individual tasks.

1 This Day Aria (A Canterlot Wedding – Part 2)

“This Day Aria” is one of two songs that appear in “A Canterlot Wedding – Part 2,” and it easily takes the cake as the best song in the entire series. Queen Chrysalis and Princess Cadence take turns singing about their individual feelings regarding the wedding.

Queen Chrysalis sings about how she doesn’t truly love Shining Armor, meanwhile, Princess Cadence sings about her fears of being too late and losing her husband-to-be. The entire thing sounds like a Disney-esque musical number and it’s on another level compared to the music in the rest of the series.
