Just as vampires, werewolves, witches, and ghosts get a huge amount of praise on television and in movies, the supernatural hunters deserve some too. Over the years, certain hunters have become even more famous than their supernatural counterparts. Characters who have become cult favorites and can most likely survive any gruesome apocalypse.

The history of supernatural hunters dates back pretty far to the original Van Helsing and his foe Dracula. With the top hunters on the small and big screen, some have done it better than others. Even Blade (Wesley Snipes) gets a step up for being half-vampire. Fans can agree when needing a soldier against the supernatural, they want these characters on their team.

10 Abraham Lincoln (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter)

The 16th president of the United States had a secret life as a vampire hunter, according to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The 2012 movie took an interesting spin on vampire hunting, especially when it came to who the said hunter was. The story somewhat parallels the real-life of President Lincoln but with some tweaks.

A young Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) sees his mother being killed. He seeks revenge and learned the existence of vampires. Props are given to the character as he becomes a skilled, ax-wielding hunter as well as a president.

9 The Argents (Teen Wolf)

The Argents in the hit MTV supernatural show are part of a much bigger organization; one with ties to countries around the world. At first, the Argents, led by patriarch Chris Argent (JR Bourne), settled in Beacon Hills. His wife Kate (Eaddy Mays) explains the family has been active for 400 years and were wealthy and a well-known family of hunters. But over the course of the show, they switch sides after seeing their family being torn apart.

The fairytale story of Hansel and Gretel gets a revamp in this 2013 movie. Audiences know that the two young children were lured with candy to the home of a witch hoping to eat them. This movie shows fans the two children all grown up and dedicated to a life of witch-hunting.

These two do a good job seeing as they seem to be the only ones who do the job. They have an impressive array of high-tech weaponry and knowledge of witches. They also don’t take any bull from people who discredit their work. Fans will be pleased to see their combat skills and perseverance in saving townsfolk from evil witches.

7 Van Helsing (Van Helsing)

Hugh Jackman portrayed one of the better-known versions of the Van Helsing character from the 1897 novel. The 2004 gothic-horror movie pictured the famed monster hunter in a good light. He’s first seen trying to capture Mr. Hyde. Van Helsing is part of a secure Catholic organization to take down the supernatural.

It comes with some perks like state-of-the-art weaponry such as silver bullets and artificial UV bombs. The movie shows Helsing’s impressive skills in combat and tactics when dealing with certain creatures; especially when faced with his old enemy, Dracula. This particular version of Van Helsing is 450-years old and continues his journey as a hunter.

6 Nick Burkhardt (Grimm)

Coming from a long line of supernatural warriors is some serious pressure. Nick (David Giuntoli) is a homicide detective who learns about the world of mythological and supernatural creatures, as well as his ancestral lineage. His main purpose now is to fight dangerous creatures called Wesen.

Nick has an array of abilities that make him a worthy hunter; he has special sight that allows him to see the Wesen, superior fighting skills, good observation, agility, and speed. The show also revealed that their blood can destroy the Wesen part of a witch-like creature.

4 Buffy Summers (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

Taking a look at Buffy’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) repertoire as a Vampire Slayer, she’s an extraordinary hunter. At a young age, she was fated to become the next in line to quell vampires, and along the way, she’s battled other supernatural creatures.

Is Blade really a match against anyone? For years fans considered Blade as being the ultimate vampire hunter to exist on screen or in comics. And when it comes to his movie trilogy, Blade still reigned supreme.

He has the essential vampire powers and weaknesses, but he’s ten times stronger and faster. Not to mention, he’s extremely skilled in swords and combat; which make for some epic fight scenes. In the movies, he also has an extensive arsenal provided by his other hunter friend. This includes his swords being rigged with explosives, specially made bullets, and serum to stop his bloodthirst.

2 Vanessa (Van Helsing)

Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) from the SyFy series gets bigger props because of her unique skillset. She was in a coma while the world succumbed to darkness, allowing vampires to rise and take control. She is now humanity’s last hope as she awakes to new horror and her daughter missing.

She is more than a mere vampire hunter; her blood is the cure to vampirism. While she is unaware of her family lineage, it’s revealed she is a descendant of the Van Helsing bloodline. She possesses rapid cellular regeneration, night vision, enhanced strength, and blood-induced rage. Overall, her mission is stopping the Dark One, or Dracula, from taking over.

1 Sam & Dean (Supernatural)

Supernatural’s Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) effectively progressed from being the average supernatural hunters. At first, they seek to continue the job of ridding the world of evil left behind by their father. It was largely small jobs here and there until they get involved with the celestial and stop the end of the world.

Not to mention they survive plenty of near-death experiences. As hunters, they have immense loyalty to each other and their friends, which proves useful time and time again. Unlike any hunter before, they have their hand in the destiny of mankind battling angels, demons, and even God.
