Bosses, minor enemies, and even a single wrong step within an ancient tower can instantly kill a player, resulting in the loss of hours and of soul farming progress. However, for those who have not played FromSoftware’s classic series, don’t let the game’s reputation fool you.

The Dark Souls series is fun, engrossing, and contrary to popular opinion, not all enemies are laughably overpowered. There are numerous foes, bosses included, who can be killed with only a single strike and could also help gamers practice too.

10 Asylum Demon (Dark Souls Remastered)

Eminently memorable, the Asylum Doctor is the first boss that players will encounter in the game. Although it can undeniably be a challenge for gamers who are new to the series, their moves are limited, and most players can beat it after only a few tries.

This boss is particularly easy if the Chosen Undead chooses bombs as their starting gift. Simply lob five at the demon, and he dissolves to dust. He will also drop his titanic hammer upon defeat, but predictably, there are much better weapons to use in Dark Souls.

9 Moonlight Butterfly (Dark Souls Remastered)

Although it features one of the most striking and beautiful designs of any Dark Souls boss, the Moonlight Butterfly can hardly be considered a challenge. Fought upon an ancient bridge in the Darkroot Garden, this enormous insect alternates between two styles of fighting. First, it hovers out of striking distance, casting homing spells at the player that are easy to dodge.

In its second phase, the Moonlight Butterfly simply lands upon the bridge and regains health. It only attacks rarely in this phase, and players are invited to unleash as many blows as they can on the creature before it takes to the skies for another round of homing spells. Patient players will have no trouble taking down this boss in only a few rounds.

8 Dark Sun Gwyndolin (Dark Souls III)

Located behind an illusory wall in Anor Londo, Gwyndolin’s narrative action seems to build toward a climactic boss fight. However, the encounter is anything but dramatic as this boss is more of a minigame than a fight.

Set in an endless palatial hallway, the player must race toward this serpent-human hybrid, dodging the magical bolts it flings, until within range of landing a few blows. After landing a few strikes, Gwyndolin will teleport further down the hallway, necessitating another round of magical dodgeball. Run, hide, slash, and its curtains for Dark Sun Gwyndolin, one of the easiest bosses to appear in the Dark Souls series.

7 Covetous Demons (Dark Souls II)

Lumbering and with almost exclusively short-range attacks, the Covetous Demon is an early-game boss that looks more challenging than it actually is. A classic cheese strategy, encircle and slash, allows even under-leveled players to make quick work of this chunky rodent. When it rears up to attack, there’s copious time to recharge stamina or top off with an Estus Flask if necessary.

Players also have the ability to distract the demon by releasing Undead Laborers from several tall pots surrounding the room. In this case, the Covetous Demon will begin eating the Laborers, opening it up to attack without the danger of retaliation. It is even easier to take down the Covetous Demon with range-based or other unconventional Dark Souls builds.

6 Ceaseless Discharge (Dark Souls Remastered)

A frequently memed boss, the questionably named Ceaseless Discharge is a mass of sentient magma resembling a giant with spider legs. The Chosen Undead encounters this foe in the Demon Ruins, and it can be beaten handily without even moving.

Ceaseless Discharge is subject to a very limited set of attacks and movements, with a well-defined range. Standing just out of reach of its swinging arms, the player can easily land a handful of slashes and strikes on the lumbering giant before it resets and tries another attack. Repeat this strategy, and this molten discharge will finally cease.

5 High Lord Wolnir (Dark Souls III)

High Lord Wolnir represents a stellar addition to the Dark Souls roster of bosses in terms of design – a colossal skeleton adorned in ancient baubles and jewelry. However, with wide telegraphed swings, the only genuine danger in this fight is the damage inflicted by the surrounding darkness. To beat the High Lord, players must target the enormous glowing bracelets that they wear, which shine like beacons against the dark backdrop of the boss arena.

For players who know where to look, it’s even possible to destroy one of the bracelets before the battle begins. Once the Ashen One shatters Wolnir’s bling, this massive skeleton fades away like a forgotten nightmare. It is possible to defeat this skeleton king without damaging their bracelets, but there is no reward for doing so, and it takes much longer.

4 Ancient Wyvern (Dark Souls III)

The appearance of the Ancient Wyvern at Archdragon Peak is one of Dark Souls III’s most cinematic moments. It’s a truly chilling scene when the dragon perches upon the ruined battlements to prepare for combat, recalling one of the Dark Souls series’ most challenging battles with the Black Dragon Kalameet.

Unfortunately, the fight with this boss doesn’t live up to its dramatic design. Instead, the crumbling towers and staircases lead to a lofted vantage point that allows the Ashen One to leap onto the dragon’s head and plunge their sword therein, instantly killing the enemy. What initially seems like an intense fight quickly turns into a rather blasé narrative setpiece.

3 Bed Of Chaos (Dark Souls Remastered)

Debates still rage as to whether or not the Bed of Chaos is the best or one of the worst bosses in Dark Souls. The challenge surrounding this encounter is the slowly deteriorating environment around the Chosen Undead, recalling the platformers from yore as players attempt to leap from crumbling cobblestones to rotted roots to reach the boss itself.

Once the pit is navigated, the boss within the Bed of Chaos is revealed to be a tiny insect-like creature writhing helplessly in the center of the tangled mass of trees. With two health points, this boss can be killed by the lowest level players with only a single strike.

2 Pinwheel (Dark Souls Remastered)

Pinwheel is practically a meme of the Dark Souls franchise. A masked spectral entity carrying magical lanterns, this boss’s signature abilities include casting ranged fire spells and creating clones of himself.

However, these doppelgangers are pitifully weak and serve mostly to distract the Ashen One, leaving them open for a barrage of fireballs from the real boss. Players can even exploit a generous hitbox around Pinwheel that leaves them vulnerable to damage during their teleportation animation. With persistence and raw hack-‘n-slash tactics, even total Souls beginners can clobber this boss easily.

1 Deacons of the Deep (Dark Souls III)

The Deacons of the Deep constitute a boss fight that’s hardly more difficult than traversing any given room in the game. When entering the arena, around two dozen slow-moving Deacons will attack the Ashen One in a horde with pyromancy and melee attacks. The “challenge” for this boss is that only one Deacon at a time represents the boss’s health bar, and only when dealing damage to that specific Deacon will the player be able to whittle down the boss’s vitality.

This could have been difficult if not for the fact that the key enemy is glowing red and radiating thick smoke, eminently visible from anywhere in the room. After slaying five Deacons, their leader, Archdeacon Royce, will appear in blazing red-aura glory. Though his acolytes will do what they can to heal and protect their leader, he’s an old hat (no pun intended) at this stage of the fight and easily defeated.
