The 100 grew in popularity over its seven seasons, becoming one of the CW’s biggest hits. There’s even a possibility of a prequel being made somewhere down the line. With its compelling cast of characters, politically relevant and action-packed storylines, it’s no wonder this science-fiction drama appealed to so many viewers.

But although members of The 100 fandom agreed on their love for the show, overall, their opinions on more specific matters were often quite divisive. From arguing over ships like ‘Clexa’ and ‘Bellarke’ to being split over story decisions and character deaths, there’s been plenty of disagreement between viewers. Naturally, that’s led to some fans having unpopular opinions — like these takes on Reddit.

10 Clexa Shouldn’t Have Blown Up Like It Did

For the most part, those treading their toes in The 100 fandom will find fans who adore the relationship between Clarke and Lexa and fans who feel pretty lukewarm about it. Disliking Clexa altogether appears to be an unpopular opinion, but it’s one that several Reddit users have.

It’s not so much that they dislike the relationship in its entirety. Several fans on Reddit have expressed that, while Clarke and Lexa’s relationship was a nice addition to the show during its earlier seasons, it was made out to be “too important” by the end of the series.

Of course, showrunner Jason Rothenberg has said that bringing Lexa back was intended as a means of giving closure to fans who were displeased with the way her storyline ended — and they certainly deserved it after all the valid criticism surrounding Lexa’s death. Still, there will always be fans who disagree with a show’s choices, as is the case in this scenario.

9 Echo Is A Cool Character

Echo’s character has received a lot of hate from The 100 fandom. This was partly because of her relationship with Bellamy and partly because she betrayed and deceived the show’s main characters during its earlier outings.

There are quite a few Reddit users who appreciate Echo’s character though, with one even comparing her to Indra. And to be fair, all of the bad things Echo did was for “her people” — which is the same motive Clarke, Bellamy, and just about every other character had on the show. It appears these viewers were able to focus on Echo’s better qualities and grow to love her as much as the others.

8 Jaha Was The Best Leader In The Series

With leaders like Lexa and Clarke around, it’s not often The 100 fans hear about what a great leader Thelonious Jaha was. Of course, viewers are watching the series mostly from the delinquents’ perspective, so Jaha doesn’t jump out as “number one.”

One Reddit user, however, believes that Jaha should get recognition for being the best leader in the series. While Jaha made some questionable choices to survive, he did manage to keep the human race alive on the Ark, getting them back to the Ground – even if it meant sacrificing himself in the process. (Luckily, it never actually came to that.)

7 Monty Isn’t All He’s Cracked Up To Be

Most characters on The 100 will have fans going back and forth between hating them and loving them, but Monty Green is universally adored. It’s probably because he’s such an amiable character and doesn’t seek out conflict.

But even though most of the fandom loves Monty, some Reddit users don’t understand what the hype is all about. From flat out disliking the character to pointing out that he wasn’t a saint (he did have a large hand in the destruction of Mount Weather), several users have questioned why Monty is so lauded by the viewers and characters alike.

6 The Show Should Have Focused Less On Romance

The 100 is a shipper’s paradise — or worst nightmare, depending on the season — because there are quite a few romantic pairings that develop over the course of the series. While most fans are on board for such relationships, some wish the show would have stuck to the science-fiction plotlines and action instead.

One Reddit user suggested that The 100 was at its best when it wasn’t focusing so heavily on romance. Sure, Clarke and Lexa or Emori and Murphy could have had their moments — but those subplots didn’t have to overtake entire episodes.

5 Madi’s Commander Storyline Could Have Been Cut

Clarke’s adoptive daughter, Madi, is introduced during The 100’s fifth season, and she’s essentially used as a plot device from day one. With Nightblood, she creates tension between Clarke and Octavia, with the latter viewing her as competition for the title of Commander — a title Madi eventually takes on when Octavia fails Wonkru.

But Madi’s time as Commander is short-lived and somewhat disappointing, with one Reddit user believing the show could have done without it. Following season five, Madi becomes more of a puppet Commander, with Clarke and Indra pulling the strings. Later, Indra takes over, so it’s understandable that some fans just didn’t see the point in Madi becoming Commander in the first place.

4 Raven’s Character Arc Wasn’t Great

Raven Reyes was a fan-favorite character when first introduced, but viewers began to have mixed feelings about where her arc was headed as the series continued. Constantly thrust into oddly placed romantic relationships and frequently acting “holier-than-thou” with Clarke, Raven began to grate on some viewers’ nerves.

And while most were satisfied with her turnaround at the end of season seven, it seems some Reddit users weren’t ready to forgive the show’s resident mechanic just yet. Comments range from expressing dislike for her character overall to wishing the show had ended her storyline earlier than it did.

3 Some Relationships Shouldn’t Be Mended

When watching a television show or movie, there’s some satisfaction in seeing characters set aside their differences. As one Reddit user suggests, however, that’s not always how things play out in real life — and perhaps not every relationship on The 100 needed to be mended.

Of course, fans now know that anyone left standing by the end of the series did rectify their problems with the other remaining characters. Whether that was realistic is a different story, though — and after seeing Octavia immediately forgive Clarke for killing her brother, some fans may be inclined to agree with this particular Reddit comment.

2 Grounder Politics Were Boring

The Grounders play a large role in The 100 from its very beginning, but seasons two and three delve deeply into their culture and the politics of the 12 clans — something several Reddit users reportedly could have done without.

With Grounder politics setting up so much of the series, however, it’s unclear what these commenters would have preferred to take this storyline’s place. Perhaps more jumping through space and time, like in the later seasons, would have been appreciated.

1 More Lighthearted Moments Would Have Been Nice

Most viewers knew better than to go into The 100 expecting light, fluffy moments after just a season or two. However, some fans were still crossing their fingers that the characters could have a little levity, even if it was only briefly. And one Reddit user questioned why the show couldn’t have had a few more lighthearted scenes worked into all the darkness, which actually would have been nice.

Unfortunately, that just isn’t how The 100 rolls — though, of course, that final moment before the credits rolled on the series could be perceived as somewhat optimistic, no?
