The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

Marcus Kane was not the same person at the end of the series as he was in the beginning. However, several moments proved that perhaps Kane had not changed as much as Abby or several others would like to give him credit for.

Kane may have wished for peace, but there were far too many times that he had an attitude that suggested that he was above the actions of others, that he was somehow better than them. While Kane may have regretted his choices and learned from them, that does not erase that he had done monstrous acts, and Kane was one of the last people to judge someone for making difficult choices in a desperate time.

10 Best: Believing In Bellamy

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

From viewing their first interaction, it never looked like the two would ever get along. Yet, somewhere along the way, Kane stopped seeing Bellamy as the bad guy that shot the Chancellor, but a leader in his own right. Kane and Bellamy seemed to reach an understanding between season two and the beginning of season three, as noted by the way they act toward each other at the start of the third season.

However, it is most noticeable when Bellamy takes Pike’s side of violence and war against the Grounders over Kane’s wish for peace. Kane saw Bellamy as more than what he was becoming when Bellamy followed Pike, and Kane made sure to tell Bellamy that it was not too late to be on the right side of the conflict.

9 Worst: The Culling

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

This had more to do with his role on the Ark than who he was personally. Kane believed in following the book to the letter instead of ignoring the rules. By doing so, he was responsible for floating several Ark citizens, including Jake Griffin. The original hundred hated Kane and Jaha for floating their parents. However, as oxygen lowered, Kane had decided that they needed to take action to save as many as they could, even if it meant hundreds had to die.

Without the proof that Abby repeatedly told Kane to be aware of, that the hundred were still alive on the ground, Kane got the culling approved. Three hundred citizens sacrificed their lives for loved ones to survive, only for their deaths to be needless when they finally learned that the hundred were alive and surviving on the ground.

8 Best: Supporting Octavia During The Conclave

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

Octavia could only have two supporters during the Conclave. As Octavia fought to win, Kane and Bellamy stayed to support her. Before starting, Kane and Bellamy made sure to give Octavia last pieces of advice, reminding Octavia that she did not need to kill all the warriors; she only needed to kill the last one.

In the end, not only does Octavia win, but she promises all the clans one-hundred spots each to ensure everyone is represented in the bunker. Unfortunately, Kane and Octavia’s relationship took a negative turn during their years in the bunker.

7 Worst: Lashing Abby

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

Soon after the Ark touched the ground, the council seemed to have trouble distinguishing which laws no longer needed to be enforced. To prove a point to the citizens, Kane has Abby shock lashed by Major Byrne.

Since Abby’s actions had gone against Kane’s, he was trying to use violence to scare everyone and make a point that things were not as different on the ground to keep order. While the two seemed to move past the event later as they become romantically involved, such an act was unnecessary to complete.

6 Best: Accepted Clarke And Bellamy As Leaders

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

While Abby may have taken a long time to understand that Clarke’s involvement in politics and such was highly relevant, Kane trusted Clarke’s choices even if they went against his. When Clarke released Emerson, Abby was quick to be against it, but Kane, seeing Clarke with Indra and other Grounders as a backup, told Abby to stand down as he realized that Clarke had influence and a significant role that he and Abby did not.

Later, Kane states that the youth have inherited the Earth as he watches Clarke and Bellamy leave Polis with a mission to find a way to survive Praimfaya.

5 Worst: Sending The 100 To The Ground

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

Deciding that children were disposable as a way to save yourself was a pretty low move, but Kane still agreed to it. Even though Kane was not alone in the act, he certainly was a part of it and did not actively try to prevent it.

Kane seems to see the kids as expendable as well and makes a grand appearance to help Bellamy and Finn after a Grounder captures them. Kane made it sound like it was an excellent thing that they were there, that things would be better with them. Ironically, Kane, Abby, and the rest of the Ark only made things harder.

4 Best: Floated Himself

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

This is not to say that Kane deserved to die, but that he chose to die with his morals intact. Kane never even got to step foot on Sanctum, only being awake briefly to view the new world before falling unconscious again. That is the last time Kane got to be himself. Afterward, he is stuck in cryo until Abby decides to follow the Primes’ lead and use Nightblood and a mind drive to transfer Kane into a younger body.

Kane wakes up in horror and uncomfortable with the new body. Without the scars and experience that came with his body, and the knowledge that other people had known the man his mind lived within, Kane overall chooses that he can not be a part of such a change. Instead of walking around in another man’s body, Kane decided to die, as much as himself as he could.

3 Worst: Siding With Diyoza

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

After escaping the bunker, Abby takes Marcus with her to Shadow Valley. While in the valley, Kane got to know Diyoza and envisioned a future of peace and what to do with open land. When given a choice between Octavia and Diyoza for who should have control of Eden, Kane decides that Diyoza is the better choice.

Kane’s decision makes him a traitor, and given what Octavia went through in the bunker, it makes it severely unfair for Octavia to deal with it. Kane’s choice doesn’t do him or anyone else any good anyway. Kane ends up in a coma due to an attack, and McCreary uses Damocles to ensure that no one can have the valley.

2 Best: Peace Talks

The 100 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Things Marcus Kane Has Ever Done

Choosing a chance for peace instead of war, Kane wishes to make a deal with Lexa. While Kane’s attempts were not always successful, he never gave up. After Clarke agreed to make Skaikru the thirteenth clan, Kane was branded with the mark for being included in the coalition.

He became an ambassador for Skaikru, sticking close to Roan to keep him safe while Clarke, Bellamy, and Abby worked on the Nightblood solution. When Octavia put Kane in the fighting pit, Kane refused to fight and was saved when the bunker was finally opened.

1 Worst: Full Blame On Octavia For The Dark Year

Flashbacks confirmed that Kane was not always in the room with Octavia and Abby as they hashed out plans for how to handle food shortages. Yet, Kane was undoubtedly in the meeting when Abby first suggested cannibalism and was there to hear Octavia was not in favor of it.

However, Kane seems to have forgotten that conversation as Octavia went full speed ahead. Kane had forgiven Abby for her actions during the Dark Year but not Octavia’s, even though it was clear, especially in the beginning, that Octavia did not want to force Wonkru to be cannibals. Kane referred to Octavia as a monster several times, placing all the blame on her when Abby was the mind behind the things Octavia had to enforce.
