Clarke and Bellamy have one of the closest friendships on The 100, but that certainly doesn’t mean things are always peachy between these two characters. In fact, they’ve butted heads more times than fans can count, and it’s led to them doing some pretty shameful things to one another.
There’s no denying that Clarke and Bellamy’s relationship has overcome all the betrayals it’s had to endure, but that doesn’t mean the fans have forgotten their worst moments together.
10 Clarke Did: Pulled The Drop Ship Lever
During the season one finale, Clarke is left with a difficult decision: Save her friends and risk the Grounders making it onto their ship, or pull the lever and block everyone outside the drop ship from entering — including Finn and Bellamy. Ever the survivor, Clarke protects her people, leaving Bellamy and Finn to their fates. And while one can hardly blame her for making the choice she did, it’s pretty cold to leave your friends to die in a fiery explosion.
Luckily, Bellamy doesn’t die as a result of Clarke’s decision and doesn’t seem to hold it against her. But it’s clear from this point onward that Clarke Griffin almost always puts her people before her personal relationships.
9 Bellamy Did: Tried To Undermine Her At Every Turn
The first season of The 100 begins with Bellamy and Clarke at odds with one another, clearly divided by their vastly different upbringings. While Clarke views Bellamy as a genuine delinquent, Bellamy sees her as a spoiled brat raised by the very people who executed his mother. It makes for a messy start to their relationship.
The two have numerous disagreements about how to run their new colony on Earth, but Bellamy especially goes out of his way to undermine Clarke’s leadership, even threatening her at times. It’s a testament to Clarke’s leadership skills that he eventually comes to respect her — but it takes him a while to get there.
8 Clarke Did: Left Him To Deal With The Aftermath Of Mount Weather Alone
Bellamy and Clarke are forced to make horrible decisions to save their people at Mount Weather, and both of them come to terms with those choices differently. That’s natural, and hardly something Clarke can be blamed for, but it does hurt to see her turn her back on Bellamy at the end of season two.
While Bellamy clearly expects the two of them to work through their trauma together, Clarke needs to be away from her people after the fight — and she leaves Bellamy to deal with his own emotions on his own.
7 Bellamy Did: Put His Support Behind Pike, Not Lexa
Bellamy’s third-season storyline is a frustrating one, mostly because he places his faith in Pike instead of Clarke and Lexa. Although he does have reasons to distrust Lexa, it’s clear that Pike is the person whose actions will cause the most harm — yet Bellamy chooses to follow him, even in spite of his warmongering.
Even if Bellamy couldn’t find it in himself to leave the fate of his people to Lexa, he should have listened to Clarke’s pleas and helped her prevent a war. Instead, he betrays her, making choices that wind up hurting everyone involved.
6 Clarke Did: Locked Him And His Sister Out Of The Bunker
If Bellamy’s actions in season three are frustrating, Clarke’s rival them when season four rolls around. Upon finding out the Death Wave is coming, what’s left of humanity faces chaos in deciding who gets to live in the underground bunker. And with a little persuasion from Jaha, Clarke has a morally questionable moment during which she decides to steal the bunker for their people.
That’s pretty disappointing on its own, but it’s worse when one considers that Bellamy and Octavia were both outside of the bunker when Clarke closed and locked the door.
5 Bellamy Did: Went To Space Without Clarke
There’s no doubt the decision to leave Clarke behind during Praimfaya is one that eats away at Bellamy, but it’s still a choice he makes to save his friends. It’s a poor way to repay Clarke for saving them all, but unfortunately, it’s the only way to make her sacrifice worth it.
Luckily, Clarke doesn’t seem to hold this particular decision against Bellamy. That said, it does seem to have caused a slight rift in their relationship. (But that could also be from the six years apart…)
4 Clarke Did: Left Him To His Fate In The Fighting Pit
After Bellamy betrays Clarke in season five, she leaves him to his fate, knowing that Octavia is sure to punish him for betraying Wonkru. Although Madi attempts to persuade Clarke not to leave Bellamy behind, she insists that he made his bed — and, to an extent, she’s right.
Still, after witnessing the violence that Wonkru embraces, it seems a bit harsh that Clarke would leave her best friend to engage in a fight to the death at his sister’s behest. It’s probably a good thing nothing ever came of Bellamy being thrown in the fighting pit, or this decision would have haunted Clarke for the remainder of her days.
3 Bellamy Did: Put The Flame In Madi’s Head
Bellamy and Clarke might have spent years apart, but it’s painfully obvious to just about everyone that Clarke cares for Madi as though she’s her own child. Bellamy can see that, yet he still chooses to go against Clarke’s wishes in season five and put the Flame in Madi’s head.
Bellamy’s intentions might have been in the right place when persuading Madi to become Wonkru’s new commander, but he clearly didn’t consider the impact this would have on Clarke or her adopted daughter in the long run.
2 Clarke Did: Agreed To Help Diyoza
It’s terrible enough that Clarke leaves Bellamy to his fate when she and Madi flee from Wonkru, but Clarke actively helps Diyoza and the Eligius prisoners in their fight against Wonkru — putting her former friends directly in harm’s way.
From her reaction when Echo shows up at the Eligius camp, it’s clear Clarke thought Bellamy was already dead when she decided to join the wrong side of the war. But one has to wonder why she’d be so eager to hurt the people he cares about — and, since he wasn’t dead, she could have been responsible for his demise.
1 Bellamy Did: Tried To Kill Her
When Clarke and the gang arrive on Planet Alpha, they experience the effects of a solar eclipse — one of which is being driven to madness. As the group grows increasingly paranoid, they start to mistrust and attack one another. And given the tensions between them from the previous season, it’s probably no surprise that Bellamy goes after Clarke.
It’s easy to give the guy a pass because he wasn’t in control of himself, but there’s little doubt that at least some of the anger he directed at his friend was genuine.
