The Best Competitive GrassType Pokémon In Diamond & Pearl

Grass-type Pokémon can be difficult to use in competitive battles in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but they are great options nonetheless. Grass-type Pokémon are one of three elemental types that every player can choose to start within Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, alongside Fire and Water-types. Together, these three types of Pokémon form a rock-paper-scissors loop where Fire-types beat Grass-types, Grass-types beat Water-types, and Water-tyes beat Fire-types.

Of these three elemental types, however, Grass-type Pokémon have many offensive and defensive pros and cons, which is why they aren’t part of the overall best competitive team in Pokémon BDSP. For example, while Grass-type moves inflict 2x damage to Water, Ground, and Rock-types, they only deal half damage to Fire, Grass, Poison, Flying, Bug, Dragon, and Steel-Pokémon. Additionally, Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type moves inflict 2x damage to Grass-type Pokémon, while Water, Electric, Ground, and other Grass-types only inflict half damage on Grass-type Pokémon. Unfortunately, these type-disadvantages are common to see in many battles, as many offensive heavy Pokémon have access to a wide range of moves that are super effective against Grass-type Pokémon.

The best Grass-type Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Breloom, Roserade, Rotom-Mow, and Tangrowth. Breloom and Roserade are also some of the best competitive Fighting-type Pokémon and Poison-type Pokémon, respectively. Rotom’s various forms often make it one of the best competitive Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Tangrowth is the only pure Grass-type here and has exceptional HP, Attack, Defense, and Special Attack stats. Roserade can be added to any team before the National Dex is acquired, but Rotom, Tangrowth, and Breloom require players to have the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl National Dex first.

Roserade is one of the best leading Pokémon in the game, with a high-Speed Stat and access to moves like Toxic Spikes, Sleep Powder, and Energy Ball. Breloom has a high Attack stat, can set itself up for extended combat with Leech Seed, Drain Punch, and Substitute. Rotom-Mow’s dual Electric and Grass-type allows it to negate the Flying-type weaknesses without gaining any additional weaknesses thanks to its Levitate ability. After players find and catch Rotom in Pokémon BDSP, they can head to the Team Galatic building in Eterna City to change its form from Ghost/Electric to Grass/Electric, where it will instantly learn Leaf Storm. As a pure Grass-type Pokémon, Tangrowth needs to be wary of all the aforementioned weaknesses. Still, if it can effectively use Swords Dance, Tangrowth will have an extremely high Attack stat that is difficult to defend.
