The Big Bang Theory Every Character Ranked By Likability

The Big Bang Theory introduced us to longtime friends and partners Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Howard, Penny, Bernadette, and Amy. Each character brought their own unique flair to the show and has grown exponentially over 12 seasons. Sheldon became more personable, Howard lost his creepiness, Raj realized it’s okay to be by himself… The Big Bang Theory is filled with growth.

But not every character was as likable as the next. Every fan has their own list of favorites from the show but after a deep dive on Reddit, scoping out fans’ thoughts on TBBT characters, this is a ranking of the most likable main characters from the show.

7 Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitzlink

Similar to every other character on this list, Bernadette changed throughout the series. But some fans don’t think that change was for the better.

When Bernadette started dating Howard, she was soft-spoken, laughed at everything Howard said, and was focused on a future with him. But years down the road, Bernadette became sarcastic, annoyed by Howard’s character, and judgemental. As brilliant and adorable as Bernadette can be, she didn’t always hit the right note with fans.

6 Leonard Hofstadter

Fans are shockingly not on Leonard’s side. It appears his character change is the reason behind it. At the beginning of the series, Leonard was a brilliant experimental physicist who was nervous of everything. His insecurities got in the way of his dreams but when he fought through his fears, he came out on top, which made him extremely relatable.

But as time went on, Leonard became a little too cocky and a lot more whiny. He becomes a pushover when he starts dating Penny and stops trying in all ways. Even he realizes he’s in a rut when everyone around him is succeeding in their careers and he’s stagnant. Over time, Leonard lost himself and it was noticed.

5 Penny Hofstadter

Penny is one character that experienced the most growth. She went from a poor waitress trying to make it as an actress to a successful pharmaceutical sales rep with a good head on her shoulders. She was finally paying off her debts, making good money, and thought about the world from an adult’s eyes.

She also quit fooling around and focused on her relationship with Leonard. Sadly, regardless of all this growth, Penny appeared to rely on wine a little too much. She rolled her eyes at Leonard, put him down without realizing it, and wasn’t a great friend to Amy. Penny has her moments but fans were disappointed in her by season 12.

4 Raj Kutherpali

Raj also showed a lot of growth in 12 seasons. He conquered his fear of talking to women, excelled in work as the series went on, became more independent as he loosened his ties to his parents’ bank account, and slowly realized he didn’t need to force relationships.

As badly as Raj wanted to get married, he wasn’t going to do it just to say he had a wife. Raj was endearing, charming, and helpful throughout all 12 seasons. Sure, he had his “woe is me” moments but his positives outweigh his negatives.

3 Amy Farrah Fowler

Amy Farrah Fowler went from a judgemental robot to everyone’s favorite neurobiologist. She was one of the most relatable characters. She was in love with a complicated man who wouldn’t commit to her and she wanted to be known for her brains rather than her physical attributes.

She’s also one character who merged nicely with the group. Her obsession with wanting to be Penny’s friend was hilarious television and she implemented herself into most storylines. Like everyone else, Amy had her downfalls but not quite as bad as the others.

2 Howard Wollowitz

Reddit is torn on their love/hate relationship with Howard Joel Wollowitz. He gets a lot of hate but he also gets a lot of love. His sexualized sense of humor, friendship with Raj, and battle with Sheldon is hit or miss with fans.

However, it appears fans enjoyed these aspects of Howard. He was one character who matured but still kept his original personality intact. Watching him blossom into a husband and father was something fans never thought they’d see, but he does it brilliantly as he continued to prove his genius at work. As rambunctious as Howard can be, he was one of the bright lights of the series.

1 Sheldon Cooper

It can’t be too much of a surprise that Sheldon is the most beloved character in the series. No matter how many outrageous and selfish moves Sheldon has pulled over the years, he’s the star of the show. Without Sheldon, there is no show. And like many other characters, Sheldon grew a lot.

He became more open and understanding, and he began respecting those around him. He also learned to love a woman who truly loved him. Sheldon’s misunderstanding of just about everything made him hilarious and his insecurities made fans feel deeply for him. Sheldon is a complicated but likable character who fans can’t help but watch.
