The Boys has quickly grown into an absolute must-watch show for a bevy of reasons. At a glance, she might serve as nothing more than an alcoholic and jaded version of Wonder Woman, but there’s actually more to her character that most people might not even know about. 10 The Actor Who Plays The Role Of Queen Maeve Is Irish

Given the fact that all the members of The Seven are essentially supposed to be American, it’s actually somewhat surprising that most of the actors who portray them aren’t.

Two good examples of this are Homelander and Queen Maeve — the former is portrayed by Antony Starr, who is from New Zealand. Meanwhile, the Irish Dominique McElligott plays the role of Maeve.

9 Hers And Erin Moriarty’s (Starlight) Outfit Was Quite Uncomfortable

Given the fact that The Boys was essentially meant to be a parody of superhero culture, it’s fitting that the outfit that the women superheroes in the show are wearing costumes that are incredibly uncomfortable.

Erin Moriarty — who plays the role of Starlight — infamously declared how the suit squeezed her chest so much that it felt like she couldn’t even feel her organs. Meanwhile, the corset that Dominique McElligott wore was so tight that it was close to impossible for her to even bend over.

Another thing to note about Dominique McElligott is the fact that she’s actually blond in real life. However, the showrunners wanted Maeve to have different colored hair from Starlight.

7 She’s Blonde In The Comics

Both Starlight and Queen Maeve are blonde in the comics, making it rather weird that Dominique McElligott even had to dye her hair in the first place.

Perhaps the showrunners just really did not want both the female versions of The Seven to look completely identical, which is why this turned out to be the case.

6 Both She And Starlight Could Fly In The Comics

Another thing in common that both Starlight and Queen Maeve share in the comics is the fact that they could fly as well! These powers of flight were limited to just Homelander in the show instead.

After all, the harrowing scene where Homelander lets the flight crash could’ve been mitigated somewhat if Queen Maeve could fly, which is perhaps why this power was nixed.

5 She Mocked Starlight In The Comics After The Latter Was Harassed

In the show, Queen Maeve actually reassures Starlight when she tries to compose herself in the washroom after being harassed by The Deep. This nice gesture was completely eradicated in the comics, where Starlight decides to meet her idol after facing this harassment… only to be mocked and rebuked by Queen Maeve.

This scene is made even worse by the fact that the scale of the harassment that Starlight faced was even worse — instead of The Deep, the comics saw her being forced by Homelander, A-Train, and Black Noir into fulfilling their sickening needs.

4 At One Point, She Used To Have The Same Naive Ideals As Starlight

Aside from that one decent moment, Queen Maeve does end up being somewhat rude towards Starlight for the most part, which may seem completely unnecessary…but actually reveals something interesting about Maeve’s character.

There was a time when Queen Maeve used to also have these naive ideas about how superheroes were meant to conduct themselves and the like… before The Seven — and Homelander, in particular — made her realize just how much of a farce this really was.

3 Starlight Is The Reason Why Maeve Gets Over Her Cynical Attitude

However, while Maeve might initially look down on Starlight for being this naive, the fact of the matter is that the latter never chose to roll with the punches and accept what was happening to her. Instead, she fought back and tried her level best to dismantle the evil workings of The Seven from the inside.

Looking at the zeal of this young woman was what enabled Queen Maeve to finally get over her cynical nature, realize that things could be changed, and actively take a part in revamping the manner in which The Seven would operate.

2 Queen Maeve’s Dad Injected Her With Compound V To Earn Money From Her

It seems that no superhero ever had a proper upbringing in The Boys, given the fact that they were injected with Compound V without their knowing, after all.

Queen Maeve, is no exception to this, with her father injecting her with Compound V so that she could score higher in pageants, competitions, and the like. The money he got from exploiting his child fuelled his gambling habit.

1 She Permanently Damaged Her Arm Early In Her Career When She Saved A School Bus

Queen Maeve might seem like one of the strongest members of The Seven, but there was a time early on in her career when she was actually somewhat vulnerable and could be harmed.

Once, at some point early on in her career, she had to save a school bus that had gone out of control. She managed to do the same, but the damage her arm incurred as a result was so severe that it has never properly healed to this day.
