When one talks about some of the most popular shows as of right now, then it goes without saying that The Boys would be mentioned in this conversation at some time or the other. It’s easily one of the biggest TV shows right now, with Amazon Prime becoming even more popular due to the exclusivity of The Boys on this platform.
Watching the story of Hughie, Butcher, Starlight, Homelander, and the others evolve over the course of the past two seasons has been quite a treat to watch indeed. Now, with season 2 completely wrapped up, it goes without saying that the hype for season 3 of this show is very much through the roof, and most people can’t wait to see what else in store for the cast.
So, as is the case with any future release, there are various things that viewers would want to be developed extensively in season 3, while there are other less interesting aspects of the show that most people would prefer to be shelved. Keeping this in mind, here are five developments people want to see in season 3, coupled with five other things that should be ignored in the upcoming season.
10 WANT: The Exploration Of Neuman’s Character
Victoria Neuman is the new Supe-Villain, whose identity as the head exploder is revealed in the final episode of the series after Episode 7 ended on such a shocking note.
It’s a given that she’ll be a focal point in season 3, but one would appreciate if she’s not bad just for the sake of being bad — being a great character entails having proper motivations, which means her psyche and backstory should definitely be explored to some extent.
9 DON’T WANT: Cheap Death Scenes Just For Shock Value
One thing that season 2 of The Boys ended up relying on was surprising death scenes that served no greater purpose other than to shock and awe viewers.
While this might’ve served its purpose, one can’t deny that it does feel like a cheap way to garner a reaction. The Boys has a ton of draws, so relying on shock value all the time doesn’t exactly need to be a necessity.
8 WANT: More Screen Time For Stan Edgar
The news that Giancarlo Esposito would be featured in season 2 of The Boys was certainly quite a treat indeed, but one has to admit that his screen time in the season was woefully inadequate.
Given the fact that he captivated audiences every time he came into his element, one would obviously want Stan Edgar to feature heavily in the series from season 3 onwards. After all, there simply has to be a link between him and Neuman, which would be an intriguing angle to explore.
7 DON’T WANT: Homelander Being Relegated To A Side Role
Homelander developed a ton as a character throughout season 2, but one has to admit that the manner in which he had to admit defeat and back off from The Boys was certainly a tad too convenient for one’s liking.
Now, with more characters coming up and Homelander seemingly being content with the position he’s in right now, one must wonder whether his screen time will be reduced in the show as well.
One can only hope that this is not the case.
6 WANT: Queen Maeve Reconciling With Elena
Queen Maeve and Elena’s relationship is easily the most intriguing romantic angle in the series, with the flawed Maeve trying her best to reconcile with Elena but being unable to do so due to the demons of her past.
One can only hope that Maeve is finally able to let her past go and opt for a future with Elena, since that would be a satisfying outcome for this character.
5 DON’T WANT: More Cringeworthy Hughie And Starlight Scenes
Unlike Maeve and Elena, the relationship between Hughie and Starlight was easily one of the worst and most boring parts of season 2. This was quite surprising, especially since the dynamic they shared in season 1 was way more interesting.
One can only hope that their scenes — which will inevitably be featured heavily in the show — don’t end up meandering as they did in season 2, and actually build up to something more substantial and long-lasting.
4 WANT: Butcher Developing As A Father Figure
Butcher is easily one of the best characters in the entire show, and the fact that his wife passed away at the end of the series — that too at the hands of her son — is easily one of the most tragic moments in the entire series.
However, this does set up an interesting angle with Ryan, as Butcher must now look past his identity as a Supe and actually treat him like a kid who has a ton to learn.
3 DON’T WANT: Bad Acting From Ryan Once Again
That being said, it’s not like anyone’s really stoked to see more of Ryan as a character. It’s rare to find child actors with good acting chops, after all, and one can’t deny that some of the scenes in The Boys suffer because of Ryan’s wooden acting.
One can only hope that, by the time season 3 rolls out, Ryan has more of a pleasing and commanding presence.
2 WANT: The Boys To Interact With Compound V Like In The Comics
In the comics, The Boys actually end up injecting Compound V into themselves to fight on equal ground against The Seven.
While this might not exactly be an inspired narrative choice, one can’t deny that it would be interesting to see the kinds of powers that The Boys get if they do end up treading the same route in the TV show.
1 DON’T WANT: Episodes Being Released On A Weekly Basis Once Again
One of the worst parts about season 2 was easily the unnecessarily convoluted nature of the show’s release, with the first three episodes arriving on Amazon Prime in one fell swoop… before the other five episodes released on a weekly basis.
On a platform where people are used to watching shows at their behest, it was certainly quite irritating to wait every week for an episode of The Boys. One can argue that this ended up hurting the show’s pacing, which is why most people consider season 2 to be inferior to season 1.
It would be great if The Boys decides not to repeat this trend again and actually release all the episodes together without any unnecessary delays.
