The Challenge All The New Group Teams Formed After The MidSeason Twist

Host T.J. Lavin served up a twist on The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies and fundamentally changed the format of the game. Instead of two-partner teams, Challenge competitors in this half of the season have been split into three teams, and everything about the players’ strategy has to switch. Veterans made use of the two-partner team format in the first half of the season to pick off the rookies, but now they’re playing an entirely different game.

The latest episode’s daily challenge was fairly standard, but after the first half, players ended up in one of three color-coded stations, creating three teams of six, referred to as “cells.” T.J. informed the Challenge cast that the two-player team format was done for the season, and for at least the next leg of the competition, they would be competing as part of these three groups—the Ruby Cell, the Sapphire Cell, and the Emerald Cell.

After the second half of the daily challenge, the Emerald Cell won and were named the Agency, and were then tasked with sending one woman from either of the remaining teams into elimination. Rookie Priscilla Anyabu was chosen to go into elimination for a second time, but in a surprising twist, T.J. revealed that Priscilla would be picking her opponent. Priscilla chose to go up against veteran Ashely Mitchell, who sent her home. After her elimination win, Ashley was given the choice to leave her team and join another, but Ashley turned down the option to switch, and three teams were left.

The Ruby Cell

This team consists of veterans Corey Wharton, Kyle Christie, and Tula “Big T” Fazakerley, and rookies Emy Alupei and Logan Sampedro. Priscilla was a member of the Ruby Cell before being eliminated, and the team is now down one player. Things could get awkward on the team after Big T and Logan’s recent breakup on the show, and overall, the Ruby Cell seems to be the weakest.

The Sapphire Cell

This team has veterans CT Tamburello, Ashley, Amanda Garcia, and Nelson Thomas, and rookies Ed Eason and Bettina Buchanan. During the daily challenge, CT encouraged Big T to join the Ruby Cell, which could have been strategy or avoidance. Either way, this is a strong team with a lot of veterans and proven rookies, and Ashley was smart to return to them after her elimination win.

The Emerald Cell

This team consists of veterans Nany Gonzalez, Josh Martinez, Kaycee Clark, Tori Deal, Devin Walker and rookie Emanuel Neagu. As evidenced by their daily challenge win, this is another powerful and vet-heavy team. This team has the potential do do well, though many fans are already speculating that due to the new format, Josh will get called into elimination often by fellow players who see him as a layup. Still, there could be an iconic Challenge win in the Emerald Cell’s future.

Currently on The Challenge, Spies, Lies & Allies, the teams aren’t quite even, with two teams of six and one team of five. T.J. hasn’t revealed yet how that inequality will be dealt with, if at all. There’s a chance the Ruby Cell could be whittled down one by one, but there’s still time for the game to change again, and players should always expect the unexpected.
