The Conjuring 3 Officially Titled The Devil Made Me Do It

The Conjuring 3 has officially been subtitled The Devil Made Me Do It. The Conjuring universe started back in 2013 when the first film was released. The franchise has proven to be incredibly lucrative for Warner Bros., which has resulted in several movies set in The Conjuring universe. So far, the series has gotten one sequel, three Annabelle spin-offs, a film centered on the Nun character from The Conjuring 2, and another spin-off called The Curse of La Llorona. Now, Warner Bros. is in the middle of post-production on The Conjuring 3.

Despite the film being released in less than a year, there have been very few announcements on The Conjuring 3. Early on in the film’s development, it was announced that the film wouldn’t have another haunted house setting, but rather focus on a murder trial. The Conjuring 3 will see the return of Ed and Lorraine Warren, again played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, and will be directed by The Curse of La Llorona director Michael Chaves. The last big update fans got was when Chaves released a logo for The Conjuring 3, but now the official title of the movie has been revealed.

Warner Bros. officially announced today that The Conjuring 3 will be titled The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Along with the film’s official title, Warner. Bros also released the first official summary of the movie which can be read below:

“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.”

While The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be the next film in the Conjuring universe, Warner Bros. is also developing other films to supplement the franchise. About a year after the Crooked Man appeared in The Conjuring 2 hit theaters, Warner Bros. announced that a movie revolving around the Crooked Man was in development. However, not much has been heard about this project since then. More recently, the studio announced that The Nun was getting a sequel with Luke Cage writer Akela Cooper penning the script.

While the man’s name hasn’t been mentioned by Warner Bros. yet, the title The Devil Made Me Do It confirms that the film will revolve around the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. Johnson stabbed his landlord to death back in 1981 and claimed during his trial that he only killed the man because he was possessed. The trial is credited as the first time trial where the accused used demonic possession as an excuse. Johnson’s case became known as the “Devil Made Me Do It” trial. With this recent announcement from Warner Bros., it’s only a matter of time before someone is cast as Johnson in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
