One of the best parts of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance are the relationships, friendships, and bonds built. The world was amazing, but these characters are what made fans fall in love with the show. Seeing them work together to try to save their world from the evil (albeit entertaining) Skeksis is inspiring, to say the least.
While all together the main characters are fascinating, the teams they’ve made are the best. Fans should be really excited to see them again in a (hopeful) second season.
Until then, here’s the 10 Best Duos In Age Of Resistance.
10 Rian & Gurjin
At the beginning of AoR, the Skeksis manipulated all of Rian’s fellow guards into thinking that he ended his girlfriend’s life. While that was torture for Rian, at least his best friend Gurjin didn’t doubt him. He felt uncomfortable seeing him for the first time after, but very quickly he decided to join Rian and help him tell the truth about what the Skeksis did.
Even if he was a bit of a lazy guard, Gurjin always had his best friend’s back. He sacrificed himself to get Rian out of the castle to spread truth. After that, he was one of the top Gelfling helping bring the clans together to fight back. There never was a better bro than Gurjin, and Rian was a stronger hero because of it.
9 Brea & Lore
Unlike the other heroes, Brea spent most of her early journeys alone. That is, except for the mystical hunk of stone that is Lore. A sentient creature made from magic, he helped protect Brea’s life in dangerous situations and did everything he could to get her to the truth. That’s what Skekgra and UrGoh made him for, after all.
However, Brea and Lore formed a bond that went both ways. He didn’t just protect her, but she did all she could to protect and respect him. They couldn’t have made it to the deserts without one another, but since they did, they have helped change the fate of Thra.
Pretty impressive teamwork, huh?
8 Deet & Hup
The second that Deet and Hup met, they were kindred spirits in a dangerous forest. They both were misfits, a Grottan above-ground and a Podling Paladin. They didn’t quite fit what anyone expected and they weren’t where people thought they should be. Their friendship was fast and strong, between two people trying to be heroes even though they don’t quite know how.
Hup protected Deet from the moment they met, and Deet returned the favor. They survived Silk-Spitters, imprisonment, traversing the great desert, and several attacks from SkekMal. Together, they are a duo that gets a lot of heroism done.
7 Aughra & Thra
Before the Skeksis mucked it all up, Aughra was the great protector of Thra. They worked together in harmony, and the planet sang to her. Their coexistence helped make Thra into the beautiful place it was always meant to be.
However, during the Skeksis reign, while Aughra was looking beyond the stars, her bond with Thra was broken. It wasn’t until she awoke that she could even try to connect with the planet again.
It may have taken some dances and rituals, but eventually, she connected with Thra so they could try to save their world together.
6 Brea & Tavra
While Brea struggles to acclimate to life as a princess, she does have a great connection with her sister, Tavra. Unlike her mother and eldest sister, Tavra is a warrior. She understands Brea’s drive to be different better than anyone else, it’s just her paladin nature is better accepted.
With Tavra’s help, Brea is able to survive home life and escape the expectations put on her. Without Tavra, Brea couldn’t have been such a huge help in fighting against the Skeksis. Hopefully, Tavra is still alive someone, in the Arathim consciousness, because she and Brea are good together.
5 Kylan & Naia
Sure, most of the duos here are the great heroes of AoR. However, not all of Thra’s heroes get as much screen time. Rian, Brea, and Deet are the main cast, but Gurjin, Kylan, and Naia do great work, too.
While the main three are off finding information, swords, and allies, Kylan and Naia worked together to bring the clans together. They travelled around to their Maudras, spread the word to other clans, brought everyone together so that the battle with the Skeksis had hope. Let’s hope they get the screen time they deserve soon enough.
4 Tavra & Arathim
The Arathim are a species of sentient, hive-minded spider creatures. They don’t speak well with other sentient creatures, but their bonds with Gelfling can open up communication for them. When the Arathim bonded with the warrior princess Tavra, they gained a valuable ally. Not only was she their conduit of manipulating Gelfling, but she gave them a window into her life.
Between their deal with Rian and Deet and Tavra’s influence, the Arathim learned that siding with the Gelfling was better for them than the Skeksis.
Losing Tavra to their collective may break her sisters’ heart, but together they helped repel the Skeksis at Stonewood and hopefully can help more in the future.
3 Scientist & Chamberlain
The best term for The Scientist and The Chamberlian are frenemies. They don’t actually like each other very much, but together they have great ideas for progress. Without The Chamberlain, The Scientist wouldn’t have thought to use the crystal to extract essence. And The Chamberlain needed his influence with The Scientist’s projects to raise his status with The Emperor.
Together, these two Skeksis cause each other a lot of damage. However, they also lead each other towards progress. As a duo, they are the backbone of Skeksis power. Meanwhile, they also damage each other irreparably. The Scientist probably will never get over losing that eye.
2 Rian & Deet
AoR didn’t spend much time on romance, but when it did, it was super cute. Over the series, the naive, natural, and powerful Deet fell for the heroic Rian. As friends, they saved each other from the perils of travel. As heroes of Thra, they traveled the land for allies and answers. And as romantic interests?
They became each other’s light in the darkest of places. Even though Deet had awful visions of a dark, terrible future, Rian and her friends encouraged her to keep pushing.
Best of luck to this burgeoning couples of heroes as Deet’s future only gets darker. Hopefully Rian can make it brighter.
1 UrGoh & SkekGra
Possibly the most important duo in all of Thra, UrGoh and SkekGra were the only two, rebellious split UrSkeks to stay with their partner. All the others split, far across the world from one another. Not only did UrGoh and SkekGra stick together, but they even created different ways to help save Thra. Between Lore, the spire, and that amazing puppet show, they are the only broken UrSkek practively doing anything for their world.
Even if they get on each other’s nerves, they deserve so much credit for all the good they’ve done. What a top tier duo that deserves to come back and help save Thra in season 2.
