The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has finally made its debut, and fans are excited to see the frenemy dynamic between Sam Wilson/The Falcon and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier. They were introduced and prominent throughout the Captain America trilogy as close friends of Steve Rogers. After being victims of the Snap, they were revived in 2023, and they now take center stage in their own TV series, focusing on their life after the Blip.

Of course, his loyalty sparked an ongoing friendship with Steve Rogers and probably influenced Steve’s decision to pass the Captain America mantle to someone he trusted.

Bucky has incredibly complex character development, going through different phases since The First Avenger. He eventually became a lost soul trying to find his way in Civil War before finally finding some peace.

Bucky as The Winter Soldier is one of the most well-executed stories in the MCU, showing his struggles throughout each movie. His complex and compelling story is unusual for supporting characters.

Sam has perhaps some of the best one-liners and quotes in the MCU. Sometimes, they are cheeky and humorous, like “I hate you” towards Bucky or “so you like cats” while in a car with T’Challa.

However, his one-liners are also sensible, like “the people that shoot at you, usually wind up shooting at me” or something iconic like “on your left,” a callback to his run with Steve as Avengers assembled in Endgame. His effortless eloquence gives him a long list of memorable quotes and one-liners that fans repeat to this day.

Unfortunately, things for Bucky have not been easy. He was experimented on, brainwashed, and used as an assassin by HYDRA, killing many innocent people. Of course, this is not who Bucky is as a person. Once he realized what he had done, he was willing to take responsibility, own up to his mistakes, and do the right thing.

His first act of doing the right thing was accepting help from T’Challa and Shuri in Wakanda and undergoing cryostasis as a means to overcome his HYDRA programming. The first episode of the series also highlighted Bucky’s attempts to make amends with those he hurt, like befriending and helping Yori.

4 The Falcon: His Willingness To Help Others

Sam is a superhero who wants to help and defend humanity. Furthermore, he showed his caring personality before meeting Captain America. As a soldier who fought in Afghanistan, Sam lives with the loss of his wingman and close friend, Riley. However, he uses his experience to help others who also dealt with similar losses and war traumas by becoming an advisor and counselor for veterans in the Armed Forces.

Therefore, it is no surprise that he is one of the most relatable characters in the MCU. He tries to help others with his life lessons and guidance. Of course, his altruism soon grew when he became The Falcon. It is simply in his nature to help others no matter the situation.

3 The Winter Soldier: His Willingness To Continue Fighting Despite His Complicated History

Any superhero will fight against evil, as it is their nature to do so, and that includes Sam Wilson. However, Bucky’s perspective on fighting threats is complicated, different, and somewhat awkward, given his history as a HYDRA assassin. Also, he has been fighting his whole life on both sides without a moment of respite.

Now, he deserves to live a peaceful and harmonious life, away from death, darkness, and anything with wars and battles. Yet, when people needed him to fight against a threat, he was not hesitant nor showed any second thoughts, like when T’Challa approached him in Wakanda in Infinity War. It only shows his growing good conscience and morality.

2 The Falcon: Tactical & Strategic Intelligence

Sam is tactically and strategically intelligent. He knows when to make the right moves and succeeds in his missions in his Falcon getup with Redwing.

However, even on the battlefield, he knows when there needs to be a sacrifice play to achieve something. This moment was witnessed in Captain America: Civil War, where he suggested that Team Cap had to hold off Iron Man and his team so that Captain and Bucky could escape and stop Zemo.

1 The Winter Soldier: A Genuinely Good Friend

Despite his 70 years as a HYDRA assassin, there is no denying that Bucky is still a genuinely good friend to Steve Rogers. Before the war, Bucky remained the closest friend to Steve by always having his back and protecting him.

Even a brainwashed Bucky appeared to have some consciousness when he saved Steve from the wreckage of the Helicarrier. Eventually, he regained his memories with Steve and recalled their good times. He instantly knew what Steve had done when he time-traveled to return the stones and never came back through the portal in Endgame. Furthermore, he accepted and supported his friend’s decision.
