The Flash Season 8 Already Has The Best Harrison Wells & Cisco Replacements

With Cisco Ramon and Harrison Wells leaving The Flash after season 7, there are already the perfect candidates to fill their void in the Arrowverse. While The CW has greenlit another season for Barry Allen and his team, The Flash is undergoing a few cast changes. Having been with the series since the beginning, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh are officially departing The Flash after the ongoing seventh season. Cavanagh had technically already finished his run as a series regular in The Flash season 6, but his final three episodes carried over into the new season due to the pandemic. While Cisco and the many Wells who have come and gone have been a huge part of the Arrowverse drama, it’s normal for long-time cast members to eventually move on to new opportunities, especially after seven years.

However, like most Arrowverse shows do whenever original cast members depart, The Flash will likely bring new members to the team. However, with Cisco and Wells stepping out, The Flash season 8 already has two players who would be perfect to take their places: Nora West-Allen and Bart Allen. The 150th episode is introducing Jordan Fisher’s Impulse into the Arrowverse while re-introducing Jessica Parker Kennedy’s XS, as the future children of Iris and Barry. As Arrowverse’s Flash Family is coming together more than ever, The Flash season 8 would be the perfect time to make the speedster siblings part of Team Flash. For Nora, it would be a fresh second start after her original version was erased in the fifth season.

XS’s original time on The Flash had its many ups and downs, as Nora has always deserved to come back under better circumstances. With the nature of time travel, as well as Crisis on Infinite Earths retooling the continuity, it can finally happen. Since Kennedy is already confirmed to be appearing in multiple episodes, including the 150th episode, it could set the stage for her to rejoin Team Flash next season. In Bart’s case, they are introducing him pretty much at the end of this ongoing season. Since Impulse was one of the last major comic characters missing in the Arrowverse, it’s hard to imagine Bart being done after The Flash season 7. Now that both their children are coming from the future, The Flash season 8 would be the perfect time to finally explore Iris and Barry being parents for two kids.

This will also be the first time Impulse is explored as their future son rather than future grandchild, making Bart’s dynamic with Iris and Barry slightly different from the comics and other media adaptations. Given where The Flash is currently in its run, next season is probably the best time to explore Impulse and XS as part of Team Flash on a regular basis. Valdes and Cavanagh’s coming exits do highlight a crucial point about the Arrowverse drama. While there is no indication The Flash season 8 will be the final one, it’s not a stretch to say that the ending is likely coming within the next three years. There is definitely potential for the series to keep going for a ninth and potentially tenth season.

But regardless of when The Flash is ending, it’s better to have XS and Impulse replace Cisco and Wells in the eighth season rather than bring in new characters at this stage. The sixth season already added Chester Runk and Allegra Garcia, who are now series regulars, as they got their setups before joining the team. If The Flash season 8 introduces anyone new, they have to get time to settle in. The better option is to have Nora and Bart bridge over into the next season, with XS already being familiar to viewers. At the same time, Impulse will begin his journey in the 150th episode, letting fans get to know him. With Cisco and Wells leaving, it allows The Flash season 8 to still maintain the Team Flash dynamic and serve as a proper Flash Family at last.
