The Galaxy Tab S8 Just Leaked And Were Already Bored Of It

Leaked renders of the Galaxy Tab S8 just appeared online, showing that Samsung still thinks there’s a place for Android tablets in an iPad-dominated world. The tablet landscape in 2021 is pretty cut-and-dry. For the vast majority of people, getting an iPad is the best bet. Whether it’s the baseline $329 model or a maxed-out iPad Pro, there’s a reason why the iPad lineup is as popular as it is. Apple’s tablets are fast, reliable, and have the best software support by a couple of miles.

However, that’s not to say the Android tablet niche is completely dead. Amazon still has its Fire Tablet lineup, Lenovo rolls out a new tablet every once in a while, and Samsung has its own family of flagship and budget options. They aren’t the most exciting offerings compared to the rest of Samsung’s products, but they’re there for anyone who wants them.

After a pretty quiet year for Samsung tablets in 2021, it looks like 2022 could be a bit more interesting. About a month after the Galaxy Tab A8 leaked, renders for the more premium Galaxy Tab S8 have now surfaced. The renders were published on Zouton and created by @OnLeaks — one of the more reliable leakers in the industry. At first glance, the Galaxy Tab S8 looks like what we’ve come to expect from Samsung. The model shown here has an 11-inch display, dual rear cameras, a metal unibody, and what appears to be a magnetic strip on the back to attach an S Pen.

What To Expect From The Galaxy Tab S8

These renders are also accompanied by a few rumored specs for the Tab S8. Zouton says the display has a 1600 x 2560 LCD panel and touts a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s also reported to have a Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and an 8,000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging. All of that sounds good, but it’s hardly different from the Galaxy Tab S7 that launched in August 2020. Outside of the upgraded Snapdragon chip, every other rumored spec is identical to last year’s tablet. That familiarity is seen with the design as well — which looks like a copy-and-paste job of the S7’s hardware.

While the Tab S8 could be a killer tablet, it’s difficult to get excited about something that’s clearly lacking any passion. Especially in a year where Apple launched the iPad mini and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, something like the Galaxy Tab S8 feels out of place. For anyone interested, the Galaxy Tab S8 is expected to launch in January or February next year (likely alongside the Galaxy S22).
