The Infinity Gauntlet Was Fused To Thanos Hand At The End Of Infinity War

It looks like the Infinity Gauntlet had fused to Thanos’ hand at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. For years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was building up to an epic showdown between the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), and after multiple team-up films, it finally happened in 2018’s Infinity War – which was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo – with Thanos obtaining all six Infinity Stones.

Of course, the purpose of the film, which has its plot continuing in this year’s Avengers: Endgame, was not only meant to show Thanos gathering all six Infinity Stones – as well as defeating the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the rest of the superheroes in the MCU – but using the Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life in the universe, which he did in Avengers: Infinity War’s ending. Thanos’ snap worked in the end, but it left him permanently scarred.

While many people believed that Thanos’ quest would emotionally scar him after being forced to (not to mention choosing to) sacrifice Gamora, the one person who he loved most in the universe, it turns out that the snap also left him physically scarred. That much is clear in Infinity War, when viewers can see the Infinity Gauntlet burning on his hand and seemingly on the rest of his arm, too. But the scarring doesn’t appear to end there, as it seems the Infinity Gauntlet is now fused to his hand.

In the Avengers: Endgame trailer, audiences get one brief look at Thanos, who’s returning as the sequel’s main villain for the second part of this concluding story arc, when he’s walking across a field with the Infinity Gauntlet still on his hand. It’s possible this scene takes place mere moments after Infinity War, but since he’s already accomplished his mission, there’s no reason for him to still be wearing the glove – unless, of course, using all six Infinity Stones at once burned the Infinity Gauntlet to his hand.

While this didn’t happen in the Infinity Gauntlet comic book series, which Avengers: Infinity War takes heavy inspiration from, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen in the MCU. If Thanos cannot remove the Infinity Gauntlet from his hand and is forced to live with it for the rest of his life (which would fall in line with the theme of sacrifice, even if the Infinity Gauntlet, in its current state, can’t be used once again to trigger another universe-altering event, like Thanos’ snap), then this will make things considerably difficult for the Avengers as they attempt to defeat Thanos once and for all.
