With its ninth chapter, aptly titled “The Marshal,” the critical and fan hit The Mandalorian returned to Disney+ for season two, and it is safe to say it instantly continued to prove the worth of the series with what some are calling the best episode yet. The episode’s contained story was brilliant, but the episode also planted the seeds for the future with some big reveals and plot points, as well as a slew of connections and references to the wider lore.

With all of this packed into the episode, the season premiere delivered on a handful of theories and rumors that had been building up over the months before release, much to the joy of fans.

7 The Fighting Arena

There were many things prominent throughout the promotional material and trailers for the new seasons, with one such aspect being a graffiti-clad dark street and a fighting arena where two Gamorrean Guards are going at it with vibro-axes.

Many speculated these two would be connected, with people also assuming this would come early in the season and see Din Djarin on the hunt for other Mandalorians; hence being there in such an environment clearly surrounded by criminals. This entire sequence opened up the entire season and also confirmed that the individual strung up on the street lamp was the same individual Din was meeting with during the fight, Gor Koresh.

6 Cobb Vanth

There was a sense of joy as well as skepticism when rumors started floating around that Cobb Vanth would appear in the second season of the show, with him only being a minor book character appearing in the Aftermath trilogy, known for donning Boba Fett’s iconic armor.

The rumor came true very quickly, with Cobb Vanth appearing not long into the first episode of the season and pretty much being the central character except for Din Djarin, acting as the Marshal of Mos Pelgo. Vanth was great throughout, acting as an excellent connection to the wider canon, much to the happiness of canon junkies.

5 Mando & Cobb Work Together

To go alongside the rumors of Cobb Vanth’s appearance, there was a slew of theories on his role in the story, whether or not it would be a cameo, a real role in the show, and why he is even involved, would he be opposing Mando? The prevailing theory was that Cobb Vanth would actually be an ally to Din, and the two would work together.

They strike a deal: Boba Fett’s armor in exchange for help in killing the Krayt dragon that has been terrorizing Mos Pelgo (and apparently other parts of Tatooine, hence the involvement of the Sand People). Despite the initial tension, the two end up finding respect for one another, and both say they hope to see each other once again.

4 Boba Fett’s Armor

With the rumor of Cobb Vanth, as well as the timeline between Aftermath and The Mandalorian, it was pretty much inevitable that if the character were to appear, he would be wearing the iconic armor of Boba Fett – which he acquired after the events of Return Of The Jedi – and that came to be.

Some fans believed the armor would be a point of contention for Din Djarin, who takes the Mandalorian creed seriously, and so a non-Mandalorian donning the armor would be a major offense. This is exactly what happened, and ended, with Din taking the armor of Boba.

3 Boba Fett

Of course, the episode did not simply end with Din Djarin and the Child leaving Tatooine with Boba Fett’s armor. As the suns set, a figure stands on the Tatooine hills looking down at Din, with this figure being none other than Boba Fett himself.

The rumor of the iconic, beloved, (and even occasionally described as the overrated) character of Boba appearing in season two has been spreading for months now. There were even rumors that he would debut in the inaugural season, which may have come to be with him more than likely being the mysterious boots that appeared.

2 Temura Morrison & Timothy Olyphant

Alongside the slew of character rumors, from Boba and Cobb Vanth to Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and Bo-Katan Kryze, there have been many rumors for who will be playing these iconic characters, with the likes of Rosario Dawson and Katee Sackhoff reported alongside the Cobb Vanth and Boba Fett actors Timothy Olyphant and Temura Morrison.

Temura Morrison is, of course, not new to Star Wars, having played Jango Fett and had his voice dubbed over Boba in the original trilogy, although Dee Bradley Baker has carried the clones and Boba in terms of animation. Timothy Olyphant’s role is pretty much the same as in Deadwood, prompting many fans to be excited about the reports.

1 Boba Has More Than Just A One-Episode Role

The problem with all these rumored characters that so many fans have is that The Mandalorian truly does not need these characters in the story; with Din and the Child’s story being good enough and original enough, that diluting that with other characters is worrisome.

Nevertheless, Boba’s few second appearance was pretty great, and at this point, it looks like he has a bigger role in the story than some thought. While some believed he would have merely a one-episode role, even a glorified cameo, this proved he is due for more than just that, and in the safe hands of Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, etc. there should be confidence for the quality of his role in the show.
