Let’s face it. The world can be a pretty depressing place. The economy is in a slump, unemployment is high, and the prospect of a cold winter is on the horizon (at least if you live in Chicago like me).

That’s why it’s so wonderful every time Disney releases something new from The Muppets. Whether it’s a teaser spoofing the latest hot movie (like the recently released Girl With The Dragon Tattoo-style trailer) or just some new character posters, The Muppets have a way of brightening your day.

Today, Disney released its second full-length trailer for The Muppets. Like the first trailer, this new trailer does a good job of showing off the basic plot of the film (the Muppets must reunite for a show to keep a greedy oil tycoon from demolishing their beloved theater). However, in typical Muppet fashion, it also leaves plenty of room for off-the-wall gags, pop culture references, celebrity cameos, and bright musical numbers.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Fozzie Bear’s fart shoes joke. Judge me if you want, but that’s comedy gold. Co-writers Jason Segal and Nicholas Stoller, along with veteran Flight of the Conchords director James Bobin, all seem to have nailed the tone of The Muppets – while also modernizing the characters enough to make them accessible to new audiences. Hopefully the result is a success at the box office.

It’s heartening to know that a new generation of kids will get to see The Muppets on the big screen in a new adventure (not to mention all the grown-up kids who remember Kermit and the gang from their own childhoods).

Are you excited for The Muppets? Just for debate, who’s your favorite Muppet?

The Muppets hits theaters this Thanksgiving on November 23, 2011.
