The Order 5 Ways The Knights Of Saint Christopher Were Better Than The Order (& 5 Ways They Aren’t)

Netflix’s The Order is all about secret societies, magic, werewolves all while trying to get a passing grade on the ethics midterm. The show creates an interesting rivalry between the Knights of Saint Christopher and the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose.

The Knights of Saint Christopher are a gender-neutral initiative tasked with defeating dark magic with the use of werewolf hides. But despite the Knights being the supposed good guys, they’re sometimes not that different from the Hermetic Order. Here are five ways the Knights are better than the Order and five ways they’re just as bad (or even worse).

10 THEY’RE JUST AS BAD: They Use Beer Pong To Solve Dilemmas

The Knights aren’t exactly the most thoughtful thinkers. In the show, they do what college students do best: drink and play beer pong. But they take the game a bit farther. In fact, they use beer pong to solve a lot of their dilemmas.

In the first season, the Knights use beer pong to decide whether or not Jack (Jake Manley) gets to live or die. Once Jack is initiated the traditional doesn’t go away. Jack even finds out that they used beer pong to decide his fate and is a little upset.

9 THEY’RE BETTER: Their Traditions Aren’t Annoying

The good thing about the Knights is that their initiation process is rather simple and straight to the point. When Jack is first accepted into the Hermetic Order, it’s a much bigger spectacle full of masks, robes and dangerous puzzles. Not to mention that the new recruits become lackeys to the superiors.

When Jack is initiated as a Knights of Saint Christopher, all it entails is letting loose his wolf to eat a human heart. To top it off, they cheer to a drink and hangout. Simple, easy and to the point.

8 THEY’RE JUST AS BAD: They Don’t Study Their Own History

One bad thing about the Knights is that they were too caught up in the glamour of who they are. They care more about being able to turn into werewolves and how cool it is over wondering where they got said powers in the first place. Jack is the one who gives them a reality check when they show him their relics room.

The Knights were unaware of the real reason why they eat their victim’s heart. Randall (Adam DiMarco) jokingly says its because of tradition when in reality, it’s because it stops the flow of magic. The Hermetic Order, on the other hand, make it a point to learn the centuries of magic history and its teachings.

7 THEY’RE BETTER: Their Purpose Is To Stop Dark Magic

While the Hermetic Order vows to protect the human world from the supernatural, it doesn’t mean that members don’t abuse their power. Its seen various times in the first season where members use spells to make money or to their own selfish advantage. This is also seen by Edward Coventry’s (max Martini) abuse of the Order.

The Knights were created to stop the use of magic or dark magic. Besides being able to turn into wolves, they have no real other abilities. Their purpose is a purer in nature than that of the Hermetic Order. They see the possible manipulation behind using magic and its worst outcome.

6 THEY’RE JUST AS BAD: They Still Use Magic To Their Advantage

Spoiler Warning: In season two, the Knights of Saint Christopher take a new direction. At the end of the first season, the Hermetic Order decides to wipe their memories and have them forget who they really are. But once they discover the truth and reclaim their memories, they immediately seek revenge.

This is due to the fact that with their memories restored, they use magic to their advantage. They once believed in stopping magic, but now find themselves using it against the Order and go on a warpath. Not to mention that despite being infuriated over being struck with magical amnesia, Jack and the Knights are willing to do the same to Alyssa (Sarah Grey).

5 THEY’RE BETTER: They Have A Deeper Family Bond

The power dynamics between the Knights and the Hermetic Order are vastly different. The Order is run by the Grand Magus and no one can go against and defy their ruling or power. New recruits are tagged as acolytes, essentially the workers of the Order. They do everything from cleaning up sacrifice leftovers to their superior’s dirty work.

When it comes to the Knights, there is no real power play. Hamish (Thomas Elms) is the leader but looks to his fellow comrades to solve issues as a group. They’re more family-oriented and would be willing to sacrifice themselves for one another. Their friendship as a group is notable throughout the show.

4 THEY’RE JUST AS BAD: They Let A Powerful Demon To Enter The World

Spoiler Warning. Season two of the show is a real roller coaster of a ride for the Knights. After regaining their memory, they want revenge. They also discover that the Hermetic Order took possession of their archives and are stored with the Orders relics. The group has a plan to steal the entire relics room as payback.

One issue, though: they unknowingly let loose a potentially world-ending fear demon known as Rogwan. In this case, their plan to seek revenge backfires tremendously and puts humanity itself at risk. Revenge can turn dark and bitter, and it did.

3 THEY’RE BETTER: They Solve Problems The Hermetic Order Can’t

Spoiler Warning: A lot goes on in season two. Majority of the main issues are resolved thanks to the help of the Knights. College students are being murdered in public by magic. Alyssa tasks the Knights with finding the culprit, which they do without the help of the Order. The Order still had no idea where to even start.

The second instance occurs when they need to solve the issue of Ragwon and they do so on their own while the Order is preparing a backup spell that fails. This even leads to sacrificing one of their own Knights. Lastly, the Knights are the ones who discover another secret society of rogue magic practitioners and its leader.

2 THEY’RE JUST AS BAD: They Have Blood On Their Hands

The Order 5 Ways The Knights Of Saint Christopher Were Better Than The Order (& 5 Ways They Aren’t)

Sadly, the Knights aren’t perfect and are responsible for a number of deaths, just like the Order. When Jake first turns into his wolf, he killed his physics professor who he was fond of. Later on, Randall kills the people who tortured him in the lab.

Into season two, the Knights kill people if they deserve it or if it’s in defense, but it still doesn’t excuse the act of taking a life. The Heretic Order may not kill people for the sake of it, but they are still responsible for any deaths caused by magic.

1 THEY’RE BETTER: They Put Aside Their Difference For The Greater Good

Despite being rivals of the Order, they understand that differences must be put aside for the safety of humanity. This occurs int he first season when they become allies and help the Heretic Order defeat Edward.

The same occurs in the second season. Despite being riddled with revenge, the Knights still form an alliance with the Order and become official members. They put aside their anger to help the Order defeat Rogwan and find the culprits behind the use of rogue magic.
