The Rick and Morty Season 4 Art You Never Get To See [EXCLUSIVE]

Theoretically, Rick and Morty fans have already seen infinite versions of the mad alcoholic genius and his mediocre grandson sprout into existence. In our own exclusive clip for today’s release of Rick and Morty season 4 on DVD and Blu-ray, storyboard artists reveal all the editions of the iconic characters that didn’t even make it into the multiverse of the show.

Rick And Morty season 4 aired on Adult Swim in two parts last fall and this spring and hasn’t been made available for ad-free streaming yet along with seasons 1-3 on Hulu. Fans who missed the season on cable, or who want to have a physical copy of their favorite show when the coming apocalypse destroys the power lines, can get all 10 episodes in high-definition for home video now. The set also includes “Inside the Episode” bonus content along with other must-see extras for hip music-lovers like “Creating Snake Jazz,” which can be done by humans.

A new clip from the makers of the show takes fans inside the creative process. Storyboard artists Eugene Huang, Dick Pose, Samantha Gray, and Fill Marc Sagadraca discuss the different stages of a Rick And Morty episode’s germination, which include a combination of writing and animation. Fans can expect more behind-the-scenes access to the show’s production process with the season 4 DVD. You can watch the artists draw multiple universes (and Beths) into existence here.

During this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Rick And Morty won its second Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The Adult Swim cartoon, created by Community’s Dan Harmon and Adventure Time’s Justin Roiland, has developed a massive fan base of troubled geniuses with message boards and fan theories dissecting the mind-bending scientific concepts the show deals with. Of course, Rick And Morty isn’t an educational program, and the science of the show, whether accurate or not, serves as material for the characters to interact with and the writers to joke about. In characteristically meta fashion, Harmon grapples with this issue in season 4 with Rick’s worst, or best, idea of all time: the fake vat of acid plus bones and emergency ladle.

“Rick And Morty: Season 4” is also available to own digitally from iTunes, Amazon, and other online stores for viewers who understandably want to watch it immediately without getting off their couch. Buyer beware: every new season purchased digitally or for home viewing creates another multiverse with unknowable possibilities. In every timeline, you’re watching TV.
