The Sims 4 How to Start a Scenario

The Sims 4 has introduced Scenarios, a new way to tell stories with Sims in which the player can choose which actions to take to complete certain goals. While Sims players have always used their imagination to create stories and unofficial challenges, this new mechanic introduces specific stories to assign to Sims, and players get to choose how they go about completing these goals.

The first three scenarios in The Sims 4 are Making Money, Finding Love after a Break-Up, and Too Many Toddlers. These first scenarios introduced into the game are Challenge Scenarios, meaning they have a specific challenge aspect to them and a clear goal for Sims to achieve. It is likely that more Scenarios will be added in the relatively near future, likely with other win conditions.

To access Scenarios, players will need to make sure they’re updated to the latest version of The Sims 4. If the player is connected to the internet, the game should update automatically the next time the application is opened. However, if the game doesn’t update automatically, players can do it manually by opening their library, right-clicking on their Sims 4 game, and selecting Check for Update.

How to Start Playing a Scenario in The Sims 4

To start a Scenario in The Sims 4, players will need to load up their game and select the New Scenario button on the main menu. This button is right under the standard New Game and Load Game buttons. At the moment, players cannot add a Scenario to an existing household, so players will need to start a new game to test them out.

Clicking this button will open a menu with all the available Scenarios. Once players choose their Scenario between the three currently available options, they can choose between starting a new save or using an existing save. If players use an existing save, they’ll be able to use a world they’ve already created, but not any premade households within that world.

Next, players will be sent to Create-A-Sim mode where they can build their new Sims to fit into whatever story they want to tell. Afterward, players can select their world and lot like they would at the start of any normal Sims 4. When doing this, players should pay attention to the challenge of the Scenario they’re selecting. For example, the Making Money Scenario sets household funds to zero at the start of the game, so players may not want to select an empty or unfurnished lot from the start.

Beyond the initial Scenario conditions, there are very few restrictions, which will allow players to reach the end goal in multiple ways and offer them the chance to tell all kinds of stories. Successfully completing a Scenario in The Sims 4 rewards players with both the satisfaction of telling a fun story and several thousand Satisfaction Points per Sim in the household that players can spend in the Rewards store on powerful bonus traits and potions.
