Spider-Man is practically the face of Marvel Comics. As such, he has been portrayed numerous times in television and movies. Some of these interpretations have been spot on in terms of comic book accuracy. Others, not so much.

From animated movies and television to blockbuster movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man has had his fair share of actors portray him.

10 Paul Soles

The old ’60s Spider-Man animated television series has lived on for decades after it ceased airing. That is because the hilariously hokey nature of the show is very easy to poke fun at and make memes of.

The actor, rather than giving a realistic personification of a young hero, portrayed Peter Parker as a very manly, masculine figure. The character didn’t feel very much like Spider-Man at all, to say the least.

9 Nicholas Hammond

For Spidey’s first-ever live-action appearance, he was portrayed by Nicholas Hammond. Most people don’t remember that this 1970s series ever happened and for good reason.

It was the first attempt at a live-action Spider-Man, so the creators of this series should be given some slack. All that being said, there’s a reason that Hammond’s iteration of the character ranks so low on this list.

8 Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield was Sony’s attempt at much more of a cool approachable Spider-Man. They wanted him to connect with the millennial generation in ways that the previous Tobey Maguire Spider-Man did not. Trying to make a character trendy is never a good idea.

That’s one of the main reasons that the Amazing Spider-Man franchise was derailed before it could complete its trilogy. At least Andrew Garfield has some passion for the character. As bad as many of the studio’s choices were, Garfield gave audiences a much more comedic Spidey, although his Peter Parker maybe could have used some work as far as comic book accuracy goes.

7 Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris voiced the “webhead” for the positively received television show Spider-Man: The New Animated Series. Harris simply has the character down, his quirky, comedic, fun-loving attitude just oozes from the actor’s voice.

Many fans were very displeased to learn that this show had ended so soon after it had begun. Nevertheless, Neil Patrick Harris put his imprint on the character.

6 Christopher Daniel Barnes

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series was great but it wasn’t quite as beloved by fans as the original ’90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. In that show, Spidey was voiced by veteran voice actor Christopher Daniel Barnes (The Brady Bunch Movie).

Barnes’ voice defined Spider-Man for a whole generation of kids who loved to watch this hit animated series. Unlike many other shows on this list, Spider-Man: The Animated Series had a long run, as it should have based on performances such as Barnes’.

5 Jake Johnson

While Chris Pine played a slightly alternate reality version of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Jake Johnson played one that felt much more like the Peter we all know and love. His goofy, comedic nature and dramatic emotional turmoil were all perfect representations of the all-time Marvel great.

Although most versions of Peter show him as a young teenager, this version portrayed by Jake Johnson showed a much more mature one. Albeit, he was also a burnout, but it all felt like a natural progression from the character we’ve grown to love.

4 Josh Keaton

Tragically, The Spectacular Spider-Man series was canceled right in the middle of its heyday. Fans of the character only got two seasons of the show before it was yanked off of the airwaves.

Voice actor Josh Keaton got to take a stab at the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in this television show and he didn’t disappoint. As far as animated portrayals go, this is by far one of the best ones out there.

3 Tom Holland

No other Spider-Man actors have ever captured the youthful zeal of Peter Parker as well as Tom Holland has. When it comes to making a Spider-Man that still goes to high-school, there was perhaps no better choice than this young actor.

Although some key aspects of the character are noticeably missing, such as Peter’s crippling guilt over the death of his uncle, overall, Holland has done a great job in his portrayal.

2 Yuri Lowenthal

Spider-Man PS4 gifted Spidey fans with one of the best, most comic book accurate and, in many ways, the newest interpretation of Spider-Man.While most people choose to show a Spider-Man in high school, the creators of Spider-Man PS4 took the character to a stage in his life he had never really been to: fresh out of college.

Lowenthal has all the trademark characteristics of a good Peter Parker; he’s awkward yet charismatic, timid yet brave, and always has a perfectly timed joke locked and loaded. One of the main reasons the game did so well was because of Lowenthal’s stunningly faithful performance.

1 Tobey Maguire

Everything that has ever defined the character of Peter Parker is perfectly portrayed by Tobey Maguire. He nails Peter so much better than any other actor has and it appears to be a flawless performance.

Some critics of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man claim that he doesn’t shoot off enough to the character’s classic mid-battle quips. While he doesn’t necessarily throw out a joke every ten seconds, if viewers watch the Sam Raimi trilogy of movies closely, he does have his fair share of great jokes.
