The Voice Kelly Clarkson Declared Legally Single Amid Lengthy Divorce

The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson has finally been declared legally single amid her lengthy divorce from Brandon Blackstock. The couple got married in 2013 and share children River and Remington together. They filed for divorce in 2020, but things have gotten messy over the course of their separation. Brandon allegedly asked for $436,000 a month in child and spousal support, and Kelly won primary custody over her children. Despite all of this, the hardest part of the divorce for Kelly is watching her kids go through it. Kelly’s prenup was also upheld, protecting her assets and income, as well as giving her the right to sell her Montana ranch property. Brandon previously planned to work on that property as a rancher after leaving his career as a music manager.

Kelly is dealing with all the emotions from her divorce, good and bad, by putting them into a new album. The American Idol winner’s album When Christmas Comes Around will feature songs that encompass all the emotions one might feel at Christmas time, including sadness. The single on the album “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)” seems to detail how her recent breakup won’t take away her holiday spirit. Kelly’s new Christmas album will probably give fans an insight into how the divorce has affected her over this past year.

According to Us Weekly, a judge signed off on the documents needed to legally declare the former couple as single last month. As for their “marital or domestic partnership status,” that will come to an official end on January 7, 2022. The motion to declare Kelly as single while the divorce proceedings are ongoing was made in July. It has also been confirmed that Kelly will be paying $150,000 a month to Brandon in spousal support, beginning on April 1, 2021. An additional $45,601 was added on for their children, according to court documents.

Kelly’s also taking her maiden last name back, further separating herself from her ex. This is apparently not a point of contention between Kelly and Brandon. It probably won’t be a problem for Kelly to take back her last name, as that’s something judges sign off on easily. The real issues seem to lie in their finances, and in spousal and child support. At least Kelly will get to take that part of herself back amid the divorce.

Fans of Kelly will be happy to hear that she’s now legally single, which is something she wanted to be declared during her divorce. She’s also still close with her fellow coach on The Voice, Blake Shelton, who was managed by Brandon for a long time. Despite the working relationship he had with Kelly’s ex, Blake and Kelly are still very close.
