The Walking Dead Season 11 Can No Longer Ignore The CRM

After Fear the Walking Dead season 7, episode 6, titled “Reclamation”, The Walking Dead must stop ignoring the CRM. Even though the actions of the CRM heavily affected the main show, it’s the series that’s used the CRM the least. The characters currently featured in The Walking Dead still have no knowledge of their existence.

Since abducting Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in The Walking Dead season 9, the Civic Republic Military has developed a stronger presence in its universe. It became the focus of its own show with The Walking Dead: World Beyond and played an important role in Althea’s stories in FTWD seasons 5 and 6. They haven’t exactly been integral to what Fear the Walking Dead is doing with its characters, but they have made a few noteworthy appearances. In “Reclamation”, Morgan (Lennie James) found out about the CRM and worked with Al (Maggie Grace) to take down two of their soldiers with a cannon. Their deaths and Al’s exit have seemingly brought Fear the Walking Dead’s CRM arc to a close.

The events of the episode and Morgan’s heavy involvement in the battle with the CRM makes their absence from the main series all the more glaring. Though they’ve been around since Fear the Walking Dead season 5, the show’s main protagonist and most of the other characters have had no interaction with the CRM. Only Al and Dwight (to a limited degree) have been aware of the CRM in the series. And now with Morgan finding out, the CRM has evolved into an open secret in both Fear the Walking Dead and Walking Dead: World Beyond. It’s reached a point where it doesn’t feel feasible for The Walking Dead’s group to remain oblivious about what’s going on in their world.

After all, the CRM is a widespread, powerful organization that’s constantly expanding their influence. Looking at the CRM’s ambitions and plans for their future, it’s hard to imagine them maintaining their low visibility in The Walking Dead universe. With The Walking Dead encompassing a great number of well-traveled characters, it’s surprising that the CRM hasn’t attracted anyone’s attention yet. The organization continuing to be a secret in The Walking Dead season 11’s second and third parts shouldn’t be possible, especially with the Commonwealth coming into play, which is why the show should change its approach to the CRM shortly after the series returns.

The CRM is far too massive to be the well-kept secret that they were in The Walking Dead season 9 and Fear the Walking Dead season 5. Sooner or later, the people of Alexandria and the CRM should cross paths. Both the CRM and the truth about Rick Grimes have been hidden for too long. As more developments occur, the characters in The Walking Dead season 11 may finally get drawn into the CRM story.
