Netflix’s The Witcher saw critical acclaim, but season two is still a ways off. Here are some similarly bingeworthy shows to tide you over.

The Witcher probably wasn’t one of the most anticipated Netflix shows ever made, however once the streaming service finally released the series to it’s vast viewership it became readily apparent that it was one of the most universally enjoyed shows that the service had ever created. The story of Geralt of Rivia and the rest of the residents of the Continent has really taken off with fans and viewers.
Clearly there won’t be any more of The Witcher for quite some time, so new fans of the series need other entertainment to occupy their time.

With season two of the show still a while away, fans may still need some bingeworthy material to tide them over. So, if you consider yourself a fan of The Witcher and you’re really in the mood to watch a similar series, here are some more shows that you’re sure to enjoy.
14 Game of Thrones
The reaction to the end of the iconic series Game of Thrones was polarized to say the least, and a lot of people who have enjoyed The Witcher have gone as far as to say that The Witcher is what Game of Thrones should have been.
But even if the last season was sorely lacking, that doesn’t erase the fact that Game of Thrones is one of the coolest shows ever made. So if by any chance anyone watched The Witcher but has never seen GoT, then it’s a near guarantee that you’ll love HBO’s juggernaut series. At least mostly.
13 Into The Badlands
Much like The Witcher, this series has some incredible action that will keep audiences gripped from start to finish. Whether it’s sword fighting or bows and arrows, this series has it all. And the upbeat and consistent action is something that really makes the two shows similar.
While waiting for Geralt and company to return for season two, why not jump into this show and explore the three seasons that await on Netflix?
12 Vikings
Vikings is a very interesting and unique show in the sense that it blends the fantasy world with reality. The series is meant to be about the real Vikings, a people who historically lived in Scandinavia and who are now legendary for their warrior spirits.
However, the series clearly has a lot of fantasy elements as well, and many of it’s characters are actually borrowed from Scandinavian mythology. If you want to watch a period drama about a bunch of people kicking ass and occasionally experiencing some mysticism, then Vikings is definitely a show that you’re going to enjoy.
11 The Tudors
The Tudors is an interesting choice for any fan of The Witcher. Yes, it’s an intriguing fictionalized version of one of the most famous periods in English history.
However, the appeal for Witcher fans is obvious, since The Tudors is the only other TV series to feature Witcher star Henry Cavill in a main series role. The show focuses on the trials and tribulations of the notorious Henry VIII, and Henry Cavill plays the best friend of the king, Charles Brandon. Cavill brings the same level of commitment and charisma to Charles as he does to Geralt, so this is really a can’t miss series for his fans.
10 Merlin
Merlin may not be anywhere near as violent as The Witcher, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less enjoyable. This series is all about the mythical and magical elements with characters having a variety of powers, making for a consistently compelling watch.
It is very much aimed at a different audience, with younger viewers in mind for this one, however it is a thrilling show that has some incredible acting and equally good storytelling, making for a perfect show for any fans of Geralt.
9 The Last Kingdom
Although The Witcher is a straightforward high fantasy story, clearly it’s setting and plot borrows a lot from real world history. And the series The Last Kingdom takes place in a visually similar setting, it’s the story of the seemingly endless conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and the Danes in the 800’s era United Kingdom.
The Last Kingdom tells the story of Wessex, the titular last kingdom that is the final stand against the invading Danish forces. Clearly The Witcher draws a lot of it’s inspiration from Medieval Europe, so something like The Last Kingdom shares a lot of thematic similarities.
8 Supernatural
Supernatural might not seem like it has a lot in common with The Witcher on the surface, but anyone who was entertained by the exploits of Geralt as he wandered the countryside would undoubtedly be entertained by the supernatural travels of Sam and Dean Winchester on Supernatural.
Sam and Dean are kind of Geralts for the real world, although granted they don’t have literal magical powers (at least most of the time), but their abilities are far from the norm, and they encounter every manner of unnatural creature that human myth has ever managed to cook up. Plus with 15 seasons under it’s belt, that’s a lot of satisfying entertainment.
7 Westworld
Westworld might seem like the total opposite of The Witcher, and there are certainly differences. But in many ways, these shows are similar as well. They’re both set in distinct worlds, with Westworld being more of a frontier theme once people enter the park.
On top of that, the reason that fans would enjoy Westworld is purely down to the consistent twists and turns that the series provides. Just when audiences think they’ve worked something out in each episode, the plot takes things in a different direction, consistently keeping them on the edges of their seats.
6 The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance
Finding good high fantasy entertainment is a lot harder than it should be, and while a series about puppets doesn’t seem like it could satisfy the average high fantasy fan, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is as incredible as the original film.
The Gelflings are a fantasy species that seems silly on the surface, but once the audience gets to know them it’s hard to avoid becoming enthralled by their story. Age of Resistance is as it sounds, it’s the story of the Gelflings finally rebelling over their abusive overlords and taking their destiny into their own hands.
5 The Magicians
From the title alone it is quite easy to see why fans of The Witcher may enjoy this one. As with seemingly every magical based show or movie, the characters are mainly outcasts, although they have plenty of knowledge of real-life situations, which provides an interesting twist on this mythical world.
There is obviously a dangerous threat that has to be dealt with in this series, with The Magicians having to come together. However, their personalities don’t always click, and that provides some great entertainment throughout.
4 The Mandalorian
If you were to switch out a fantasy setting for a space setting, then The Witcher and The Mandalorian would bear a very striking similarity to one another. Din Djarin, the titular Mando of the series, is a mysterious lone wolf who makes his living wandering the galaxy and getting paid to bring in prisoners that no other bounty hunter can capture, but everything changes once he finds a gifted child that is the target of an intergalactic manhunt. Or Yoda-hunt.
Star Wars seems to be everywhere at the moment, but The Mandalorian is the best that the franchise has had to offer in years.
3 Black Sails
Robert Louis Stevenson is undoubtedly best known for his iconic tale Treasure Island, and the TV series Black Sails is meant to be a prequel to that familiar book. However, this pirate story isn’t just child’s play, the political intrigue, thrills, and adventure are definitely designed to entertain an adult audience.
And the cast of characters is an unexpected group that goes through a lot of unexpected experiences. Like many historical dramas, Black Sails combines the real life characters of pirates like Anne Bonny and Charles Vane and incorporates them into a fictionalized version of their true history.
2 His Dark Materials
Anyone who spent their childhood regaling themselves with any fantasy tale they could find is undoubtedly already familiar with the book series His Dark Materials, but after years as a fan favorite the books were finally adapted into a television series for HBO and the BBC.
But just because His Dark Materials is made for a young audience, that doesn’t mean that adults won’t love it either (even if they’re not already familiar with the source material). This fictional fantasy world is seemingly endless, and this coming of age tale is entertaining and relatable to everyone, even those who have already come of age.
1 Penny Dreadful
Penny Dreadful is a truly unique fantasy tale that any fan of The Witcher would undoubtedly love. It is a horror fantasy series set in the late 19th century, and although it seems like a pretty standard Gothic horror story at the start, it becomes readily apparent that this show is something altogether different once iconic horror characters like Dorian Gray and Victor Frankenstein become mainstay characters in the series.
The show is such a unique combination of characteristics that it’s difficult to describe in a few sentences, but anyone who considers themselves fans of The Witcher will likely enjoy Penny Dreadful too.
