Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

One favorite past-time of many movie-lovers is finding terrible movies and laughing at how bad they are. For any cable-savvy viewer, they know that the Syfy Channel Originals are a goldmine for these kind of movies. From bad CGI to terrible acting, nonsensical plots to bland writing, these movies really blow one’s mind.

However, of those Syfy Originals, these are the worst of the worst out there. Thanks to IMDB, figuring out which those were wasn’t all that hard. If you need the kind of movie where you have to apologize to your eyeballs afterwards, you’re at the right list.

Here are the 10 worst Syfy Originals according to IMDB.

10 Bigfoot (2.6)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

A story about Bigfoot going on a monstrous rage, this 2012 Syfy film is really… something.

This film starts off with a bang, with a hunter going after a bear and being completely mauled by Bigfoot himself. The creature then spends the rest of the movie rampaging. But the interesting twist is that there’s this bizarre conflict between two leads, Harley and Simon. Harley is an opportunist who wants to end the monster, stuff it, and get money showing it off. Simon is an environmentalist and, as it’s the last of its kind, wants to protect it.

That doesn’t matter, though, as both men (and Mount Rushmore) end up obliterated while destroying Bigfoot.

9 Grizzly Rage (2.6)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

In 2007, Grizzly Rage came out with the iconic tagline: “Ripped apart at the screams!”

Following the classic horror premise, four recently college graduates head into the forest to celebrate. Unfortunately, these lovely people hit a Grizzly cub with their Jeep and get stranded in the forest. Recipe for disaster already. Of course, they are then hunted down by the mother bear over the next few days and no one makes it out alive.

Corny, campy, and not very inventive, the movie isn’t insane, just the lamest or lame.

8 Raptor Island (2.5)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

Ever wanted to see Navy SEALs get eaten by raptors?

Well, then is this the movie for you. Raptor Island came out in 2004. A team of SEALs chased terrorists onto a South China Sea island, where instead of reinforcements, they find dinosaurs. No surprise, they get shredded by the raptors. Everyone gets eaten except three SEALS, who order for the island to get totally blown to smithereens, to try to save the world from these demon raptors.

Apparently it wasn’t enough, though, because three raptors escaped. Obvious sequel set-up? Yep. Did it have a sequel? Unfortunately, yes, called Planet Raptor. Yikes.

7 S.S. Doomtrooper (2.5)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

This 2006 Syfy original was about an American soldier trying to destroy a German super-soldier who could use electric powers and super strength. Think Captain America, but if he was a Nazi (Not like that horrible Hydra twist in the comics, though).

Captain Pete Malloy, the U.S. soldier, spends the whole movie trying to hunt down and destroy this irradiated monstrosity and the evil castle science lab (The Citadel) where it came from. His team struggles, and loses a lot of people in their fight. However, he eventually finds a weakness: the Doomtrooper can’t be shot, but he can be electrocuted straight to the skull, ending its life before what’s left of him and his team blow The Citadel up.

6 Shark in Venice (2.5)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

This film starts out as a murder mystery, which is a serious misdirection. David and his girlfriend, Laura, go to Venice to investigate the mysterious passing of David’s father. However, after the police give them nothing, they explore the city a bit, particularity by boat. And while in the boat, they see the fin of a shark. As sharks definitely do, it goes berserk, eats an Italian man, and bites David’s shoulder before backing off.

Things get weird fast, though. David then discovers treasure, Laura is kidnapped by the Mafia, and more tourists are just casually eaten by the shark.

Apparently the Great White in the waters was a ploy by the Mafia, but let’s just say this film doesn’t make much sense.

5 Alien Express (2.4)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

In 2005, Syfy originals really went all out in being absurd. After all, they released Alien Express.

The premise is that a U.S. Senator is travelling to Texas by train. However, mid-ride, a meteorite crashes into a car near the train. This ends in a tiny creature being released.

With some logic, the train stops because there was a dangerous, nearby crash. The police come and everyone is working together to try to assess the damage and make sure everyone is okay. Meanwhile, the friendly little alien gets on the train.

Then it gets less friendly, eats everyone on the train, and starts multiplying into various different malevolent creatures and somebody has to try to stop it.

4 Mega Piranha (2.4)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

With an iconic cover art (a giant piranha eating a battle cruisers), Mega Piranha is unforgettable, but not in a good way.

In Venezuela, a strain of mutated piranha get into the Amazon and cause serious genetic havoc. While the others cause chaos in South America, one escapes the continent, making its way to Florida in the height of tourist season (of course).

These monsters destroy subs, battleships, several tourists, and blow up multiple hotels. The military arms Scuba divers with guns, hoping that if the fish smell each other’s blood they’ll start devouring each other. This doesn’t work with guns, but does with a crashed helicopter.

Yes, none of this makes sense. But boy did the movie happen.

3 Harpies (2.1)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

Fun fact, this horrible movie was produced by Stan Lee and stars Stephen Baldwin!

The film starts with Jason (Baldwin), a cop getting fired who recently divorced from his wife, who he called a “harpy.”

Then he meets a professor obsessed with weird artifacts, but after dismissing him, gets immediately kidnapped by said professor. Then he ends up in medieval times, with a woman named Celestia. With her father, they go on a bizarre quest to defeat evil, powerful people and their harpies. There’s a Queen Harpy, too, and the final battle is in the future, back at the museum, where they incinerate that professor. The good guys win, and Jason and Celestia end up together. It’s very convoluted, as far as stories go.

2 Battle of Los Angeles (1.9)

Top 10 Worst LowBudget Syfy Movies (According To IMDB)

In 2011, Syfy released a film about aliens that attacked Los Angeles in 1942, and after some recon, they are coming back to finish the job.

A fighter squadron tried to repel the initial attack, but the entire group was destroyed, except Lt. Solano, who ejected before her fighter burned her alive.

From then on, various soldiers come together to prepare a counter-attack to save Los Angeles from the aliens. The most important player is the sword-wielding Karla Smaith, a secret agent for an organization that’s been holding an alien for decades. Then out of nowhere one of their members reveals themselves to be an android and starts offing them.

They survive him and, despite casualties from a weird mollusk, destroy the ship, saving the world.

1 Almighty Thor (1.6)

When everybody’s favorite Loki hurts Valhalla and ends Odin’s life to steal the Hammer of Invincibility, Thor has to fight back. However, unprepared, a valkyrie named Jarnsaxa trains him. They have to get him a proper sword and shield to protect the people.

Thor doesn’t do his best at the beginning of the fight, and cryptically has to find himself to fight back and defeat Loki.

Safe to say, it was just a messy knock-off of the Marvel film and it shows.

Considering some fans are still pretty dissatisfied with the first Marvel option, this abomination was doomed.
