TWD Fans React to the 5-Year Anniversary of Negan Killing Glenn & Abraham

The Walking Dead has moved on from the deaths of Glenn and Abraham, but fans certainly haven’t, as evidenced by tributes posted online last weekend.

It’s been 5 years since Glenn and Abraham met their untimely ends on The Walking Dead, and fans have been sure to not let the anniversary pass by unrecognized. These days, AMC’s long-running zombie series is nearing its end. The Walking Dead recently concluded the first part of season 11, which is being split into 3 separate parts to give the show a proper sendoff. Part 2 will pick up in February and resolve the fates of several characters, including Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The Walking Dead is known for its cliffhangers and their devastating resolutions, yet the most infamous one remains the season 6 finale and its follow-up. In 2016, The Walking Dead pulled out one of its most controversial episodes yet with the season 6 finale that introduced Negan and his Saviors. In the final moments of the episode, Negan famously bashed in the head of a main character, but the show didn’t reveal the victim until the season 7 premiere, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) met his end early on, but Walking Dead fans were further dismayed by the sudden death of Glenn (Steven Yeun) not long after.

The Walking Dead season 7 premiere is still a notorious episode for the series, and its 5-year anniversary took place this past weekend, on October 23. Fans took to social media to remember Abraham and Glenn, offering heartfelt tributes and general amazement that it’s been five years already. You can see a sampling of fans’ messages down below.

It’s been 5 years since we lost Glenn Rhee and Abraham Ford in #TheWalkingDead S7E1: “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be”. It still hurts and I still CAN’T and I WILL NOT forgive Negan. pic.twitter.com/IbZOjnkLUJ

Unsurprisingly, The Walking Dead has amassed quite a body count over the years, but Glenn and Abraham’s deaths still stand out as two of the most shocking in the show’s run. Abraham’s came so quickly fans could barely process it, while Glenn’s was a devastating gut punch since it fell so unexpectedly after the first. Glenn died in a similar way in the comics, but there were many fans who wanted him to pull through on the show. No such luck.

The ramifications of Glenn’s death in particular are still felt on The Walking Dead to this day thanks to the return of his wife Maggie and Negan’s continuing presence on the show. Negan even referenced Glenn in The Walking Dead season 11, much to the disgust of all involved (including Morgan himself). As the zombie series wraps up its run, expect more major deaths to rock the cast. Save for Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride), who are destined for their own spin-off, anyone could perish by the end of The Walking Dead. Time will tell if those ends are as memorable as Abraham’s and Glenn’s.
