Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

Ubisoft employees are again petitioning for a better work environment, and announced they are opening the plea to the public to help their cause. This past July, over 1,000 current and past Ubisoft workers signed an open letter demanding accountability when it comes to sexual harassment and discrimination in the video game industry.

This long-held discussion was sparked anew earlier this year, when the State Of California launched a massive lawsuit against Activision Blizzard following a two-year investigation into claims of sexual harassment and misconduct among the publisher’s higher-ranking executives. In response to these continually-growing allegations, fans and industry insiders began speaking out in support of Activision Blizzard’s workforce, which orchestrated a walkout to demand a more proactive response from gaming’s top executives shortly after the lawsuit began. High-ranking members of Activision Blizzard have resigned or been dismissed in the months since the company’s misconduct first came to light, but many feel that more action is still needed – not only within Activision Blizzard but other large-scale publishers in the gaming industry as well.

According to GamesRadar+, a group of current and former Ubisoft employees have launched a brand-new petition under the Twitter handle of ABetterUbisoft. These workers cited the previous petition from July and stated that none of their four key demands were met by Ubisoft even 100 days later. As a result, the group is asking fans to sign their newest petition to demand accountability for employees accused of sexual abuse and misconduct, as well as a “collective seat at the table” for employees and union representatives to discuss how publishers move forward with dealing with these types of insider issues in the future.

100 days ago we signed our open letter and set out our four key demands. None of our demands have been met. So today we’re launching a new petition, open for ALL our supporters to signhttps://t.co/dqmQV96FOm Please sign and share!#ABetterUbisoft #EndAbuseInGaming pic.twitter.com/tpTU3mfeaz

Several high-ranking Ubisoft employees have resigned or were removed after public accusations and internal investigations into sexual harassment claims over the past few years. While the publisher hasn’t been the subject of a massive investigation or lawsuit like Activision Blizzard, both these controversies have renewed calls for video game developers to heighten their efforts to prevent abuse, misconduct and discrimination in the future.

While steps appear to have been made to improve work environments at major game industry companies like Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft, ongoing lawsuits and discontented employee responses suggest there is room for further changes. Ubisoft reportedly acknowledged its work environment is causing the departure of – and inability to retain – “top-tier talent,” on top of its various other repercussions. Future changes are yet to be seen, but it appears the public now has a say in these demands thanks to the recent ABetterUbisoft petition.
