Uncharted Movie Poster Tom Holland & Mark Wahlberg Escape Shipwreck

Tom Holland and Mark Walberg emerge from a shipwreck in a new poster for Uncharted. The hit video game series has long attempted to shift over to the big screen, but it’s only been within the past year that it has made real progress. An Uncharted film has been in development since 2008; over the years, numerous directors were attached to the project before Ruben Fleischer (Venom) finally stuck in 2020. Though fans were interested in seeing Nathan Fillion tackle the lead role of Nathan Drake, Sony opted to turn Uncharted into a prequel centered on a younger version of the treasure hunter.

Enter: Spider-Man star Tom Holland. In his latest franchise-hopeful role, Holland will play a Drake just coming into his skills. Uncharted will track his first adventure with his mentor Sully (Walberg) as they travel the globe in search of the “greatest treasure never found.” The movie also stars Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. After suffering numerous delays, Uncharted now aims to arrive in theaters in February 2022; assuming the moviegoing landscape is still relatively active by then, this date could finally stick.

To hype up Uncharted’s long-awaited arrival, Fandango has released an exclusive poster for the film. It depicts Holland’s Drake and Walberg’s Sully walking away from a shipwreck. Fans of the games might see some connections to them, but there’s much that separates the Uncharted movie from its source material. Check out the poster below.

Uncharted is under a fair amount of scrutiny, and not just because it’s been stuck in development for years on end. Game fans have taken issue with things from Sully’s lack of a mustache to the decision to focus on a younger Drake. This poster, while offering a design that feels reminiscent of the games, might not do much to win over those who are already displeased with Holland and Walberg’s casting. However, if one can look past that, this is an intriguing tease for Uncharted. It promises adventure, and perhaps even a deep dive into a wrecked ship. The Uncharted trailer didn’t tease such a set piece, but that could be saved for future marketing materials.

Much has been said about Holland’s training for Uncharted. In his desire to match Walberg, Holland trained harder than ever before to bulk up. That shows his commitment to the role, which could’ve gone a long way in appeasing the skeptical. The new Uncharted poster doesn’t offer much by way of teasing what lies ahead, but there will likely be another trailer around the corner that can give fans a better idea of what to expect. Just stay tuned.
