Vanessa Hudgens – and her doppelgangers – are back in The Princess Switch 3: Romancing The Star. The third movie in the Netflix film franchise follows Queen Margaret and Princess Stacy (both played by Hudgens) as they prepare to host an international Christal festival. But when a priceless relic is stolen, they must enlist devious cousin Fiona (also Hudgens) for help. The Princess Switch 3 is currently available to stream on Netflix.

Hudgens spoke to Screen Rant about starring in her own Netflix Christmas Movie Universe, her traditions, and which holiday she wants to tackle next.

Screen Rant: How does it feel to just have your own cinematic universe?

Vanessa Hudgens: It’s an honor. I feel like I’ve done something right.

I was just thinking about the Tick, Tick… BOOM! press and Andrew Garfield having to dodge all those Spider-Man cinematic universe questions. And I’m like, “Vanessa is over here with her own cinematic universe, just crushing it on her own.”

Vanessa Hudgens: Yeah, you know, we got the holidays down on lock!

When you were asked to do The Princess Switch 3, was your thought, “Oh, my gosh, is there gonna be a fourth Vanessa Hudgens?” And do you draw the line?

Vanessa Hudgens: I know! No, I was like, “The only way I can do this is if we don’t add any more versions of myself, because we’re already out here doing the most.”

It’s got to be just so much fun because not only are you playing three roles, but then you have the switch element where you’re playing Margaret as Fiona, etc, etc. What’s the most fun acting challenge there?

Vanessa Hudgens: It’s that, exactly. Just creating defined characters so that I don’t need prosthetics in order to showcase different people. But then, when it came to the switches for all of the characters, I was nervous because I want to make sure that the story actually works in that we’re doing these characters justice, and I just tried to pick a couple of things that I do for each character. And of course, the way each character perceives that character that they’re trying to portray and just embedding that all into how they choose to present themselves.

People love these movies. I love them. There’s so much fun. How many Princess Switch movies do you think we could get? I think people would want them every single year if we could.

Vanessa Hudgens: I don’t know. I feel like I need a little break from Christmas for a minute. My first passion, really, is Halloween. So I feel like I’m going to probably start dipping my toes in that pool soon. But you know, it’s so special to me to be a part of people’s holiday season.

I know you go hard for Halloween. Do you have something genuinely in the works?

Vanessa Hudgens: Yeah, over lockdown and sitting with more time than I knew what to do with, I definitely got the creative juices flowing and have been working on a couple of projects. And it’s really cool seeing them starting to come to fruition. Nothing is signed, sealed, and delivered. So I don’t want to go into much detail, but it’s really exciting.

This movie’s coming out for the holidays. What are your holiday traditions? What are your favorite things to do around this time?

Vanessa Hudgens: I have actually been away for the past three years, working for the holiday season in different countries. So, I’m just so excited to get home and to be able to put up a Christmas tree and to decorate my house because I am a sucker for a theme, and nothing’s magical the way that Christmas is magical.

No one does a theme like Vanessa Hudgens.

Vanessa Hudgens: I’m a theater nerd. I’m like, give me a character, give me an environment. I’ll make it.
