Fan artist BossLogic has seemingly combined two of Vanilla Ice’s primary inspirations, ice and ninjas, by depicting the popular 80’s rapper as Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero in his latest piece. The popular Melbourne-born digital painter has made a name for himself by reimagining multiple famous actors as classic comic book and sci-fi characters, often in response to fan castings or even official announcements regarding said characters being featured in live-action adaptations.

This includes artwork of such highly talked-about developments as Rosario Dawson’s supposed casting as fan-favorite Jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano in the second season of The Mandalorian and the rumored crossover between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom in either the planned Spider-Man 3 or Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Lately, BossLogic has even managed to land more official work, such as getting to design the cover to January’s Captain Marvel #16 and creating a teaser image for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla during an all-day livestream, although fans were less than pleased with spending multiple hours watching this only to discover that the actual game reveal would come the next day.

Earlier this week, BossLogic posted a piece of fanart to his Twitter page portraying Vanilla Ice with the mask, blue hair, and icy powers of Mortal Kombat’s resident ninja warrior Sub-Zero, in addition to playfully suggesting a new skin of the character be released for Mortal Kombat 11. The obvious pun regarding Ice’s stage name has not gone unnoticed by the post’s comments, which also contain references to his classic 80’s hit single “Ice Ice Baby” and his contribution to 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze entitled “Ninja Rap,” alongside comparisons to fellow Lin Kuei member Frost and well-known eSport champion Ninja, both of whom sport a blue hairdo not unlike the one featured in the fan art.

BossLogic’s post comes at an exciting time for the Mortal Kombat franchise, as the direct-to-video animated tie-in film Mortal Kombat: Scorpion’s Revenge was recently released to much critical praise alongside news of Mortal Kombat 11 getting a new DLC story expansion titled “Aftermath,” a first for the series. This planned expansion teases the return of longtime Mortal Kombat baddie Shang Tsung, as well as a trio of new playable characters including the multi-armed Sheeva and guest fighter RoboCop.

While this latest DLC content isn’t likely to include a Vanilla Ice Sub-Zero skin, BossLogic’s depiction is still amusing to look at, in addition to being yet another display of the Melbourne native’s tremendous talent. It’s even more fitting when one considers that the rapper’s late-80;s-to-early-90;s heyday occurred at roughly the same time that the original Mortal Kombat, and by extension Sub-Zero, were first created. Players might not ever get to see the Iceman slice like a ninja and cut like a razor blade in a Mortal Kombat game, but the idea is certainly hilarious all the same.
