What Deadpool Actually Keeps In All His Pouches

For any reader that has ever wondered what Deadpool keeps in all those pouches on his belt, several books have tackled the question. The Merc with a Mouth has long worn his pouched belt as a key part of his outfit and considering his line of work, it should serve a very practical and tactical purpose. Deadpool always has his belt, so clearly it must be an integral part of his character and his costume. Are the pouches filled with extra ammo? Additional weapons? A junk drawer’s worth of random odds and ends? The answer to all three questions is yes.

Deadpool’s traditional outfit consists of a red and black bodysuit and a matching red mask. His mask follows the Spider-Man tradition of having only eye holes and no visible holes for breathing. Deadpool’s belt is an ever-present staple consisting of brown pouches on either side, framing a miniature belt buckle version of his logo which is then surrounded by his many pouches.

Deadpool Team-Up #900 features “Pinky Swear,” written by Joe Kelly with art by Rob Liefeld, and contains a panel that shows Deadpool dumping out his pouches, which, it turns out, actually contain a rather strange assortment of things. He has enough coins to pay his bus fare, a mini monkey toy, a few snacks for the road to keep his sugar level up, a hockey puck (because all Canadians carry hockey pucks in their pockets), and a silver doodad which may be a piece of a gun or who knows what other sort of destructive equipment. Out of his pouches also drops a beeping watch-like device, which ultimately ends up being an explosive. It is no surprise that the contents of his equipment would be an assortment of nonsensical, seemingly useless items for a mercenary to carry around.

What Deadpool Actually Keeps In All His Pouches

In Deadpool #2 (2008), Deadpool has a meeting with a bunch of super-Skrulls that were created using his DNA. While discussing the fact that he loses body parts all the time, it is made known that his pouches may often be filled with his own removed body parts. Deadpool also takes the time to make a light jab at artist Rob Liefeld, who is known for drawing characters with a lot of pouches (ex: Deadpool, Cable, The Pouch). These pouches would clearly be a good size for an ear or maybe a finger or toe, but if he loses a leg, what happens to that? Does he have to chop it up smaller so it fits better? Regardless of how he fits in everything, this helps him to get back into one piece faster, since he can stitch back together instead of having to regrow everything.

How he fits bigger parts is a definite mystery, but that isn’t the craziest part. The intriguing thing about this revelation is that Deadpool does get cut up a lot, and is often bleeding, yet his pouches are never shown dripping blood or even stained. These are heavy duty, anti-drip, anti-stain pouches. This mercenary isn’t sparing any expense when it comes to his gear. Those aren’t the only leftovers in his pockets, however, as seen in Deadpool #11 (2012), Daredevil can smell Mexican food, particularly cilantro, while assessing his adversary.

Deadpool really seems to like carrying snacks to chase away the munchies when he is out taking care of business. When it isn’t leftovers, he has “Monsters of the Marvel Universe” cards in his “very specific pouches for carrying trading cards,” to help him identify his monster subjects in Deadpool #3 (2019). No matter what he needs, his pouches are ready to carry anything. In true Deadpool fashion, his equipment does not abide by anyone’s expectations.
