What New Crafting Items Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Adds

The highly anticipated release of Minecraft’s Caves & Cliffs update – the first part of it, at least – was finally confirmed to be scheduled for June 8, meaning players have less than a week to prepare their Minecraft worlds for the significant new features headed their way. The first half of the game’s latest update will be primarily focused on adding various items into Minecraft: materials, crafting recipes and even mobs.

Caves & Cliffs was initially announced during Minecraft Live 2020, much to the excitement of Minecraft fans, and since then the update’s progress has been tracked through Mojang’s periodic release of Minecraft snapshots. It was then announced early in 2021 that the Caves & Cliffs release would be split into two parts, with the first releasing during the summer and the latter tentatively scheduled to drop around the 2021 holiday season. Mojang Studios reported that the technical difficulties presented by the scope of the update were the primary reason behind this decision.

While an official release date has not been given for Caves & Cliffs Part 2 as of yet, it has been confirmed that Minecraft’s improved cave and mountain generation will be included in the latter half of the update. These overhauls will increase the overall depth and height of Minecraft’s worlds, as well as completely alter existing world generation of certain biomes. Entirely new biomes, such as lush and dripstone caves, will also be added. According to Mojang, the first release of Caves & Cliffs will add 91 new items and blocks to Minecraft.

Caves & Cliffs Adds Spyglasses And Lightning Rods To Minecraft

Among the multiple materials that will be included in the first half of Caves & Cliffs’ release, copper and amethyst are among the most useful when it comes to crafting many of Minecraft’s new items. Lightning rods – which will be added as part of Caves & Cliffs Part 1 – can be crafted by combining three copper ingots, and serves the purpose of diverting lightning during thunderstorms, which can be helpful in preventing damage to flammable structures. Amethyst shards could be used to craft a spyglass, which will allow players to zoom in on distant objects. Various different types of amethyst can be found in amethyst geode structures, which are also part of the upcoming 1.17 update.

Dripleaf is another upcoming addition to the game, and comes in small and big variants, both of which can be found in the lush cave biome added by Caves & Cliffs. Unlike copper and amethyst, dripleaf’s primary purpose is for platforming. Along with Minecraft’s many new items comes several newly introduced mobs, including glow squids, which drop glow ink sacs upon death. These can be used to create glow in the dark variants of things like item frames and signs. The massive amount of new content coming to Minecraft seems likely to ensure that even long-time players will have something new to discover when the latest update is released.
