What Pokemon Unites Mobile Release Date Is

Mobile battles will soon be possible in Pokémon Unite, the free-to-play MOBA Pokémon title for the Nintendo Switch, with the announcement of an Android and Apple release date during the August Pokémon Presents. Like Pokémon GO, players will be able to download Pokémon Unite to their mobile devices and play with Pokémon fans from around the world, but with a focus on 5-on-5 stadium battles instead of Pokémon catching and training.

Pokémon Unite was released July 21, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch, with a promise of a mobile release later in the year. At launch, the number of Pokémon species available was greatly limited. Numerous tiers of in-game currency encouraged microtransactions to speed up access to better Unite Licenses, the items that allow the use of a specific Pokémon during a Pokémon Unite match. While the variety of Pokémon Unite Licenses has increased since release, their cost requires players without premium currency to grind for standard currency via daily log-ins and gameplay. This is a frustrating handicap when battling those who have quickly upgraded to better Pokémon right away.

According to Pokémon Unite, those trying the game on mobile devices can start playing on September 22, 2021. However, preregistration is already open, and bonuses are being offered if a certain number of preregistration are met before the release date. If preregistrations total 2,500,000, every applicant will receive a Pikachu Unite License, and if 5,000,000 preregistrations are met, players will receive the “Festival Style: Pikachu” Holowear. However, the license and Holowear will require players to complete the “log-in event,” instead of being immediately given out upon the game’s release. This event must be completed by October 31, 2021. Those who have already obtained the Pikachu license in Pokémon Unite will be given an unannounced number of Aeos coins, the standard game currency, instead of the license.

Pokémon Unite Has Announced New Licenses Coming Later This Year

In the same news post, it was confirmed two new Unite Licenses will be available later this year. The Fairy-type Eeveeuliton Sylveon and the Ice/Ground-type Mamoswine will both be available “soon,” but an official date has yet to be announced. Because Pokémon Unite accounts will be accessible on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, those who have been playing since release will be able to use any of their currently obtained unite licenses on either platform. This is good news for those who have claimed the Nintendo Switch exclusive Zerora License that was released as a gift at the game’s launch.

Pokémon Unite will also support cross-platform play, meaning those on the Nintendo Switch will be able to join matches with mobile players. This feature will mesh the players of both platforms together, offering a wider selection of opponents and team members to participate with during matches. While there are still many improvements that Pokémon Unite could benefit from to make the game equally enjoyable for both paying and non-paying players, hopefully, the mobile release will increase access to daily events, and bolster those relying on log-in bonuses to advance in gameplay.
