More in tune with her powers, the rightful Queen of Arendelle lets instinct guide her to her origins in the ancient river of Ahtohallan, where she ditches the royal crown and chooses to live as the fifth elemental spirit that unifies nature.

Also known for her portrayal of the singing coach Shelby Corcoran in the TV musical Glee, the Tony-award-winning actress and singer Idina Menzel (Wicked) shot to international stardom with her critically-acclaimed performance as Elsa. Prior to Frozen, Menzel had already dipped her toes in the world of Disney princesses with her portrayal of Nancy Tremaine in Enchanted. Instead of the main hero, she played Robert Philip’s ex-fiancée in the real world and Prince Edward’s wife in the animated world. Anna

Consistently brave and cheerful, obstacles like her own death are no big deal to her, and she doesn’t hesitate to follow Elsa into the Enchanted Forest. After so much strife in the way to her ideal life, she finally receives the royal crown when Elsa decides to stay in the Enchanted Forest and subsequently accepts Kristoff’s marriage proposal.

Anna has become one of Kristen Bell’s most famous roles, but the actress has been under the spotlight for several years thanks to iconic roles like the titular characters in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Veronica Mars, the latter of which earned her a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television. She first displayed her talent for singing in the theater musical Reefer Madness and its film adaptation, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical. She also has experience in voice acting as the narrator in Gossip Girl and recently starred in the critically-acclaimed The Good Place.

Kristoff (And Sven)

The Sami ice harvester Kristoff Bjorgman was a child orphan when he rescued the baby reindeer Sven. Together they worked alongside ice harvesters before getting adopted by a group of trolls. Always diligent and disciplined, they live humble lives until they meet Anna and join her in her quest to recover Elsa. Kristoff first agrees to help her in exchange for resources, but he soon falls in love with her. Sven, always being the voice of reason even though he can’t talk, urges him to confess to her. Their adventure with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf finds them a new home in Arendelle.

Both Kristoff and Sven are voiced by the Broadway actor and singer Jonathan Groff, who rose to popularity after portraying Melchior Gabor in the 2006 musical Spring Awakening. His most famous roles came with the characters Jesse St. James in Glee (where he shared the screen with Elsa’s actress Idina Menzel) and King George III in the Broadway musical Hamilton, which earned him his second Tony Award nomination after Spring Awakening. He more recently starred as the FBI special agent Holden Ford in the Netflix show Mindhunter.

Olaf

The sentient snowman Olaf is born after Elsa recreates the snowman she used to construct with Anna when they were kids. Imbued with her longing for the cherished childhood memories she has with her sister, Olaf comes to life brimming with joy, optimism, and childlike innocence. As a magical creature, Olaf can disassemble and rearrange his body without feeling any pain. Although he loves the idea of summer, he’s still vulnerable to heat. Olaf’s existence also depends on Elsa’s magic, and at one point he fades away due to her freezing.

The voice behind the playful snowman is Josh Gad – an actor, comedian, and singer most notably known for playing LeFou in Disney’s 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. He rose to fame with his portrayal of Elder Cunningham in the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon and has built a solid experience in voice acting with roles like Bailey in A Dog’s Purpose and its sequel A Dog’s Journey, as well as the yellow bird Chuck in The Angry Birds Movie and its sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2. Although his rough upbringing taught him that the path to power usually ends in suffering, he still chooses to search for the easiest way to satisfy his own ego. Prince Hans turns the classical “Prince Charming” archetype upside down when he’s revealed to be Frozen’s main villain.

Santino Fontana joins his co-stars as another skilled Broadway singer and actor with important theater credits such as Prince Topher in the 2013 adaptation of Cinderella and Michael Dorsey in the stage adaptation of Tootsie, the latter of which earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Outside theater, his most famous role is Greg Serrano in the first two seasons of the romantic comedy musical Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Duke of Weselton

With a paranoid fear of the supernatural as bad as his dancing skills, the Duke of Weselton has always had only one goal in mind: conspiring to kill the royal sisters and taking over Arendelle’s riches. His ambition is fueled by his interest over the mysterious isolation of the princess and her kingdom, but he soon receives that information after witnessing Elsa’s powers firsthand. The Duke’s greediness leads him to obtain the total opposite of his goals when Elsa decides to cut ties with him and “Weasel Town”.

Frozen Theory: Elsa Inherited Her Powers From Her Mother

The Duke is played by Alan Tudyk, whose most prominent roles include Wash Washburne in the sci-fi series Firefly and its film sequel Serenity, as well as Mr. Nobody in the DC Universe series Doom Patrol. Just like his Frozen co-stars, he acted in Broadway at the beginning of his career, but he’s currently known for his film and TV credits. Alan Tudyk has an impressive track record in voice acting, with roles such as the robot Sonny in I, Robot, the droid K-2SO in Star Wars: Rogue One, King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph, Duke Weaselton in Zootopia, and both Joker and Clayface in the 2D-animated show Harley Quinn.

Oaken

The physically imposing trader and shop owner Oaken is another victim of Elsa’s involuntary winter curse. This forces him to raise the price of his products, but he also doesn’t concede the smallest of bargains, which causes him to butt heads with Kristoff when the ice harvester comes to his shop in search of supplies. However, he’s a friendly and enthusiastic fellow whose only breaking point is stubborn customers, and he later befriends Anna and her friends. He’s voiced by Chris Williams, whose major credits are as a writer for animated blockbusters such as Disney’s Mulan, Bolt, and Moana, as well as the director of the Oscar-winning Big Hero 6.

King Agnarr

Initially shown as the nameless King of Arendelle, Agnarr isolated his daughter Elsa to protect her and Anna from her uncontrollable ice powers. In Frozen 2, he not only received a proper name but was also revealed to have been present when his father, King Runeard (Jeremy Sisto), enraged the spirits of the Enchanted Forest. Despite witnessing his father’s death, he grows up to be a beloved king and father himself. Unfortunately, he dies in a shipwreck alongside his wife, Queen Iduna.

In Frozen, he’s portrayed by comedian and voice actor Maurice LaMarche, notable for his roles as The Brain in Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, as well as Egon Spengler in The Real Ghostbusters. In Frozen 2, King Agnarr was recast with Alfred Molina, whose most famous performances include Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 and Diego Rivera in Frida. Queen Iduna

As with King Agnarr, Queen Iduna is only briefly shown in Frozen as a Queen who loves her daughters but is afraid to let Elsa unleash her powers. In Frozen 2, it’s revealed that Iduna was a Northuldran girl who saved Agnarr’s life when the soldiers of Arendelle attacked her tribe. Since then, she became Agnarr’s friend and then his wife, before perishing at sea with him.

She was voiced by Frozen writer and director Jennifer Lee, who became chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios after working on the Frozen movies, Big Hero 6, Moana, and Zootopia. Queen Iduna was also recast for the sequel, with Westworld and True Blood actress Evan Rachel Wood taking over.
