Wheel Of Time Cast & Character Guide

Robert Jordan’s sprawling fantasy epic The Wheel of Time is coming to Prime Video and its cast of characters is just as expansive as the world in which they live. Jordan’s series began in 1990 with The Eye of the World, predating modern fantasy sagas like George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series and taking a page out of J.R.R. Tolkien’s influential Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Wheel of Time follows an Aes Sedai, Moraine Damodred, as she embarks on a journey to find the Dragon Reborn.

A few years ago, former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos notoriously asked Prime Video to make the next Game of Thrones-sized hit and by October 2018 the streamer had announced they would be producing an adaptation of The Wheel of Time saga. Filming on the series began in late 2019 before it was halted in March of 2020 due to the pandemic. By April 2021, production restarted and a month later Prime Video revealed that The Wheel of Time season 2 was also in development.

Now, the series is set to premiere its first three episodes on Prime Video and The Wheel of Time’s trailers have teased an epic and expansive introduction to the World of the Wheel. Jordan’s novels have been praised for their intricate world-building and complex magic system, drawing comparisons to Tolkien and other greats. The Wheel of Time’s cast of characters is just as expansive as the world in which they live – here’s every important character and who is playing them.

Moiraine Damodred, Aes Sedai – Roasmund Pike

Wheel Of Time Cast & Character Guide

Rosamund Pike is Moiraine Damodred a.k.a. Moiraine Sedai, a member of the all-female Aes Sedai who can wield the One Power, the name for magic in Wheel of Time. Moiraine is the person who will kick off the events of the series as she and her warder, Lan, search for the Dragon Reborn. This will lead them to Emond’s Field, a small village that has been isolated from the rest of the world. From there, Moiraine takes charge of what will be a life-changing journey for all involved. Prior to searching for the Dragon Reborn, Rosamund Pike is perhaps best known for her role as Amy Dunne in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, but she has also more recently appeared in A Private War and Netflix’s I Care A Lot.

Josha Stradowski’s Rand al’Thor is one of the people who could potentially be the Dragon Reborn and this puts him in the crosshairs of Moiraine. Rand will go from a simple life of sheep herding with his father Tam to an epic journey with his childhood friends, Mat and Perrin. Rand will also be with his love, Egwene, on this perilous journey. Until now, Stradowski has starred in several television movies and series, but The Wheel of Time is primed to be his big break.

Mat is a childhood friend of Perrin and Rand’s and he will also join the two on their journey with Moiraine. Known as the village joker, Mat is usually up to no good. Harris has previously been seen in Billy Lynne’s Long Halftime Walk and A Brixton Tale.

Perrin Aybara – Marcus Rutherford

Marcus Rutherford’s Perrin Aybara completes the trio of Ta’veren that Moiraine is seeking in Emond’s Field.
