Where To Watch Every XMen Movie Online

The X-Men franchise has been a part of pop culture for twenty years, the first Bryan Singer movie premiering in 2000. That’s a lot to catch up on if you haven’t seen it, but a nice catalog to honor if you are already a fan. It may be a good time to rewatch the ten previous films (some more fun than others), but where can you find them online?

Updated On April 1st, 2021 by Scoot Allan: There have been some monumental changes in the way fans are able to enjoy some of their favorite films as huge streaming services like Disney+ and HBO Max have risen in the last couple of years to begin dominating the market. This has provided a number of new locations online for fans to watch the long-running cinematic X-Men franchise. however, as distribution deals change and film rights move between studios and the release of new movies like The New Mutants, the X-Men movies can sometimes be hard to find online, so we’ve gathered the current information for US viewers hoping to return to the hit 20th Century Studios franchise.

In 2000, X-Men came out (followed by the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie two years later) essentially jump-starting the modern superhero film craze. The film boasted a star-studded cast including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, James Marsden as Cyclops, Halle Berry as Storm, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

The movie introduced us (and Logan/Wolverine) to Xavier’s School for the Gifted and the X-Men’s perpetual fight for tolerance and equality in a volatile world as they faced off with Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants.

12 X2: X-Men United (2003) – Available To Stream On Disney+ & More

X2 introduced a new baddy named General William Striker (played by Brian Cox) who was looking to exterminate all mutants on the planet by capturing and using Professor X himself. The film also took a closer look at Wolverine’s backstory, much of which he could not remember in the first film.

Striker knows the whole story, and Wolverine has to decide what it’s worth to him. With even better review than its predecessor X2: X-Men United earned over $400 million at the box office.

11 X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) – Available To Stream On Amazon & More

Despite the spectacular run of both its predecessors X-Men: The Last Stand stumbled under new director Brett Ratner. A cure has supposedly been found for the mutant gene and everyone involved has to find their own meaning in that possibility.

The film also introduced the Dark Phoenix and all the power that goes along with it. Though the Dark Phoenix was one of the most popular storylines ever in the X-Men comics it was not a simple one to translate to the screen and unfortunately fell far short of its potential which is, perhaps, why another attempt at the storyline was made thirteen years later.

10 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) – Available To Stream On Hulu & More

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was no doubt the standout character from the original franchise. Despite his meeting with Striker in X2: X-Men United, there were still a lot of questions remaining for Wolverine and the audience. The first Wolverine stand-alone film tried to cover a lot of time, from the birth of Wolverine’s powers to his participation in the Weapon X program.

Liev Schreiber joined the cast as Wolverine’s half-brother Victor. Audiences learn how and why Wolverine/Logan lost his memory, though the movie wasn’t as well-reviewed as the first two in the X-Men series. While the entire X-Men Collection is available on Disney+ outside of the US, it can be streamed with a subscription on Hulu.

Available On: Hulu, Amazon, DirectTV, GooglePlay, Vudu, iTunes

9 X-Men: First Class (2011) – Available To Stream On HBO Max & More

Where To Watch Every XMen Movie Online

X-Men: First Class sought to explore the past and origins of the rest of the X-Men, not just Wolverine. In particular, the film focused on Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender).

From Magneto’s experience in World War II to the pair’s first attempt to unite a team of mutants as the X-Men. The team ends up having to play no small part in the Cuban Missile Crisis, and fans get to find out how the “old friends” first have a large falling out that will haunt them and the team forever.

8 The Wolverine (2013) – Available To Stream On Disney+ & More

Logan’s long life once again comes back to haunt him as his second stand-alone adventure takes him back to Japan, a country he has not visited since he was a soldier in World War II. Like in X-Men: The Last Stand Logan is offered a cure of sorts for his long life, and thus, his suffering.

A lot happens before he can decide whether or not he wants to take it, and whether or not he even really has a choice. The Wolverine suffered a bit due to the sometimes confusing timeline of the X-Men films but highlighted an important chapter of Logan’s life from the comics.

7 X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) – Available To Stream On Disney+ & More

One of the most beloved X-Men films, and certainly the most popular of the second trilogy, X-Men: Days of Future Past set up to combine, in at least a small way, the timelines of the original X-Men film trilogy and the new First Class trilogy.

The story finds the “original” X-Men, including Professor X, Magneto, and Storm, fighting off the apocalypse in the future and needing to send Wolverine (with assistance from Kitty Pryde) into the past to make their fight possible. Combining both casts is brilliant, and Wolverine gets to play a lot of his interactions for laughs. The film also stars Peter Dinklage as antagonist Dr. Trask.

6 X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) – Available To Stream On Disney+ & More

X-Men: Apocalypse could not capitalize on the success of its predecessor. With a convoluted plot and the unfortunate use of prosthetics on Oscar Isaac, the film missed the mark as it sent the new Xavier students to 1983.

While the callbacks to the 1980s add some excellent humor to the mix, watching the overpowered Apocalypse and his four horsemen try to destroy the world in questionable CGI takes away a lot of the character elements that made Days of Future Past such a success. Professor X, as in X2, once again finds himself in need of rescuing, but it’s not as entertaining the second time.

5 Deadpool (2016) – Available To Stream On Hulu & More

The first non-Wolverine spin-off set in Fox’s X-Men universe was 2016’s Deadpool, which starred Ryan Reynolds in the titular role as he reprised an alternate version of Wade Wilson, a role he previously played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Deadpool brought the character back to his comic roots and introduced the fourth-wall-breaking Merc-With-A-Mouth properly in an R-Rated film, which has led to the character’s singular survival in the MCU’s upcoming Deadpool 3.

4 Logan (2017) – Available To Stream On FXNOW & More

The last and, certainly, the best of the stand-alone Wolverine films finds Logan as an old man caring for an aging and ill Professor X. Both are in hiding due to the dystopian future that has finally come to pass for mutants.

It has been a quarter of a century since any new mutants were born on earth. When Laura, a young girl, who happens to be a mutant as well, shows up on his doorstep, it is up to Logan to protect her and try and find somewhere left on the planet where she will be safe. The film was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

3 Deadpool 2 (2018) – Available To Stream On Hulu & More

Ryan Reynolds returned for 2018’s hit sequel Deadpool 2, which featured more of the same dark humor and meta pop culture references that made the original a hit while also introducing additional characters from the comics like Cable and Domino, played by Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, respectively.

Deadpool 2 also hilariously lampooned Ryan Reynolds’ past superhero choices and caused further mayhem in the timeline of the X-Men franchise which proved Deadpool should never have control of a time machine.

Available On: Hulu, Amazon, DirectTV, GooglePlay, AppleTV, Vudu

2 Dark Phoenix (2019) – Available To Stream On HBO Max & More

Where To Watch Every XMen Movie Online

Dark Phoenix could not make up for the failures of X-Men: Apocalypse which tried to set up a foundation for the story that was ignored, or X-Men: The Last Stand’s previous attempt to adapt the iconic comic storyline.

Apparently, the “Dark Phoenix Saga” is all but impossible to make work on the big screen. While the film ended the X-Men franchise on a low note, there is hope as 20th Century Fox and Marvel move forward in this current age of superhero filmmaking.

Available On: HBO Max, Amazon, DirectTV, GooglePlay, Apple TV, Vudu

1 The New Mutants (2020) – Available To Stream on Amazon & More

While Josh Boone’s adaptation of The New Mutants was filmed a few years back, it was only recently released in 2020 following the sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney after it was shelved with plans for reshoots that never developed.

Boone’s initial movie that explored the next generation of mutants was ultimately released in theaters and on-demand before it was announced that streaming rights for the final 20th Century Fox X-Men movie would land with HBO Max.

Available On: Amazon, DirectTV, Microsoft, GooglePlay, Apple, Vudu
