Once Upon a Time was one of those shows that required a fair amount of dedication from its viewers. Though the story began as a fairly straightforward one about a town full of people who were really from a land ruled by magic, it soon spun out in all sorts of fascinating directions, with many different plots twisting and curling around one another. From the beginning to the end, however, it was the characters that really made this show work, and even the ones that were supposed to be villains were often given their own backstory.

Thinking about them through them through the romantic possibilities of the zodiac opens up all kinds of new understandings.

12 Aries – Maleficent

Aries, the ram, is one of the more dominant signs of the zodiac, and they aren’t afraid to let people know when they’ve been angered. They thus need to be with someone who has an equally strong personality, a kind that will not be content to let them run roughshod.

Maleficent is exactly that kind of person. After all, anyone who’s willing to go up against a forceful personality like Regina isn’t likely to let anyone else take advantage of them.

11 Taurus – Prince David

Prince David (also known as Prince Charming) is one of the most likable characters to appear on the show. He just seems to radiate kindness and compassion, and he’s the kind of person who dearly and deeply cares for his family and his friends.

This makes him an ideal match for the Taurus. Despite the fact that they can sometimes be practical to a fault, Taurus is also a very kind sort of soul, and they respond to it in others.

10 Gemini – Red Riding Hood

Geminis are well-known for the split sides of their personalities, and so it’s always a little hard to tell where one stands with them. That is something that also defines Red Riding Hood who, in this version of the classic story, is actually a werewolf that loses herself in her wolf identity.

Geminis are masters at learning to manage the two sides of their personalities, and they would no doubt be able to provide this expertise to the unfortunate Red.

9 Cancer – Zelena

It’s a well-known fact that Cancers have a bit of a tendency for self-indulgence and nursing a grievance. This is certainly a good way to describe Zelena, the woman who becomes the Witch of the West in this tale. However, there’s also a very kind part of her personality.

Cancers are likewise deeply kind and compassionate people (at times), and this makes it likely that they would make a good match for Zelena.

8 Leo – Regina

Regina is certainly one of the best characters to ever appear on this show; how else could one describe the evil queen, herself?. She’s the kind of woman who knows exactly what she wants and isn’t shy about getting it, no matter the cost (and no matter how much it might break her heart).

Everyone knows that Leos are similarly dominant personalities, and it would be quite fascinating to see Regina and a Leo compete with one another for their share of the spotlight. It’s hard to think of a better match.

7 Virgo – Rumpelstiltskin

Rumpelstilskin (who goes by the alias of Mr. Gold in the real world that isn’t magical), is also a compelling character, in part because his backstory is so tragic.

He’s one of those rare characters that manages to be both the villain (and one of the best of them) and the hero of the story. In both cases, he has a very logical and grounded way of looking at things, and this would make him an ideal match for the Virgo, who is similarly practical in their outlook on life.

6 Libra – Belle

There’s a very good reason that Belle eventually became one of the most popular characters on the show. She has an innate kindness and a desire to do good in the world that is all too rare.

She also tries to find balance, and she proves particularly helpful to Mr. Gold’s attempts to find his inner good person. Given that Libras are also born peacemakers who yearn for balance, this means that they would match up very well with Belle.

5 Scorpio – Hook

From the moment that he started appearing in the show, Hook also became a fan favorite. In large part, that was because of his smoldering good looks, but it’s also because he has a bit of a dark side to his personality, just that little bit of an edge that makes him an excellent pirate.

Everyone knows that the same can be said of Scorpios, who have a bit of a bad rap among the other zodiac signs, and it would be quite a joy to see them paired up with Hook.

4 Sagittarius – Henry

Henry is one of the most adventurous characters to appear on the show. He’s the one, after all, who jumpstarts the entire show when he decides to go looking for his real mother, Emma.

Time and again throughout the series he shows that being adventurous is a key part of his nature. The Sagittarius also has a reputation for being the most adventurous member of the zodiac, making them a perfect match for Henry.

3 Capricorn – Emma

Emma is, in some ways, the most important part of the show, the center around which almost everything else revolves. For the most part, she shows herself to be a very practical sort of person, guided more by logic and reason than naked emotion (though this doesn’t stop her from having some great rivalries with other characters).

This is also a trait that’s very common among the Capricorn, so it would be easy to see her ending up with this particular member of the zodiac.

2 Aquarius – Jiminy Cricket

The Aquarius is one of the most enigmatic of the zodiac signs. It’s always a little hard to know exactly where they stand. Anyone who has seen the show knows that this also applies to the character Jiminy Cricket (in both his human and cricket forms).

However, there’s also a lot of kindness in his nature and, since Aquarius is also known for its kindness, it seems like these two would be good matches for one another.

1 Pisces – Snow White

Snow White is also one of the important characters in the show, since she is Emma’s mother (even the two of them don’t know it for quite some time).

In both her nonmagical and magical forms, she makes it clear that she is one of those people for whom empathy and kindness are simply second nature. She would make a perfect companion for the Pisces, who is likewise motivated by care of others and their needs.
