Who Street Fighter 5s Final DLC Character Could Be

Last summer, Capcom announced the release of its fifth season of DLC for their flagship fighting game franchise, Street Fighter 5: Championship Edition. As of now, Capcom has only revealed four of the five characters that will become playable throughout 2021. The fifth character remains a mystery.

The four characters fans do know the identities of are all veterans in the fighting game genre. The first three, Dan Hibiki, Rose, and Oro are all recurring characters from previous Street Fighter games. The fourth character is Akira Kazama, a guest from one of Capcom’s other classic fighting game series, Rival Schools. Each of these characters, with the exception of Oro and Akira, will release individually at different points throughout 2021. Dan will be the first to come out, as Capcom plans to put him in the hands of players sometime during the early winter of 2021. Rose will release soon after in spring while Oro and Akira are slated to come out in the summer. Following suit, the fifth character is planned to round up Season 5 come fall. Still, the question bugging fans isn’t when number five will come out, but who they even are.

Ideally speaking, the best way for Capcom to finish off the latest season of one of their biggest games is to give fans something fresh in a brand-new character. So far, Season 5 is the only season that lacks a newbie to the franchise, and fans will always want something new and strange that they haven’t seen before. However, that’s a risky endeavor for Capcom to take on. Even with Street Fighter 5’s current sizeable roster, there is still an army of beloved Street Fighter characters that would be cheaper to make and instantly adored by the fanbase.

Which Game Will Street Fighter 5’s Newest Character Come From?

If Capcom is going to resurrect an old character, then they have no shortage of options to pick from. There are characters from every entry in the series’ long history that would make for good additions to SF5. One sure example would be a character from Street Fighter 2, the only era of Street Fighter not represented by any of Season 5’s other characters. Many of the original World Warriors have already made it to SF5, but there are still some fan favorites, such as Fei Long and T. Hawk, who have not been included. Of the two, T. Hawk’s grappler move set would add the most variety to Season 5’s primarily projectile-based Street Fighter lineup.

Another option available to Capcom is to add a second character from Street Fighter 3. As it stands, Oro is the only SF3 character included in the Season 5 lineup. Meanwhile, Dan and Rose are both from Street Fighter Alpha. Adding someone like Sean Matsuda, Ken’s plucky apprentice (and little brother to SF5’s Laura) or Dudley, the British pugilist overflowing with style and finesse, would “even out” the stilted representation of Season 5’s characters. One thing to note, however, is that Street Fighters 3 and 5 share many plot threads, making it anyone’s guess as to who Capcom might add should they choose from that roster.

Even still, it’s possible Capcom may disregard either of these options and pick from other games like Street Fighter 4 or Final Fight. There are untold treasure troves of classic characters ripe for the picking by Capcom, and many of them would be justified. SF4’s Abel has more of a reason than ever to be in Street Fighter 5 after appearing in the story mode and being preceded by his sibling, Seth. In some ways, this makes the mystery surrounding Season 5’s final character frustrating, as it’s a complete toss-up between dozens of viable options. The silver lining to this, however, is that the actual pick is always a surprise – but whether that surprise is good or bad is up for the fans to decide.
