Why Black Panther 2 Should Be About WandaVisions Vibranium Problem

WandaVision will have an impact on most of the upcoming movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as a result of the events in the series, Black Panther 2 should address the show’s vibranium problem. The MCU’s Infinity Saga came to an end with Spider-Man: Far From Home after reaching its peak with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but that doesn’t mean that it’s also the end of this universe. The MCU is now ready to move forward with its Phase 4, and kickstarting this new era is the TV series WandaVision.

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision follows Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as they live an idyllic suburban life in the town of Westview, New Jersey. However, viewers soon learned that things are not what they seem and there’s something obscure behind their seemingly happy life, and it might not be all Wanda’s fault. Outside of Westview, however, things aren’t going well either, as S.W.O.R.D.’s director Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg) has been lying to part of his team about his true intentions with Wanda’s fake reality, her powers, and Vision’s remains.

Vision died in Avengers: Infinity War before Thanos’ snap, meaning he wasn’t brought back when the Hulk reversed the snap in Avengers: Endgame, and his body was taken by S.W.O.R.D. some time after the blip. Hayward made Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) believe that Wanda broke into S.W.O.R.D.’s headquarters to steal Vision’s body, but WandaVision episode 8 revealed that wasn’t the case, and she just wanted to see his body one final time. As it turns out, Hayward and company had been dissecting and reassembling Vision’s body to create the ultimate sentient weapon, and he succeeded as revealed in the episode’s post-credits scene.

There’s even a moment where Hayward told Wanda that he couldn’t just hand over and bury millions of dollars worth of vibranium, and this simple line and everything that it implies can bring some big consequences to Wakanda. At the end of Black Panther, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) revealed Wakanda’s true nature to the world, and the consequences of that important decision haven’t really been shown on screen yet. Given S.W.O.R.D. pretty much tore apart a body for vibranium instead of asking for supplies, this will surely have consequences that Wakanda and its government will have to address, and that will have to happen in Black Panther 2. As Vision was a sentient being, his body being dissected for vibranium and used as a weapon will inevitably get Wakanda into big trouble, and the MCU won’t be able to ignore that.

As all upcoming Marvel TV shows will be an active part of the MCU (unlike Netflix’s Marvel shows), every decision taken in WandaVision and the events that occur in it as a result will impact the future TV shows and movies, and Black Panther 2 will have to address the vibranium problem brought by the series.
