Will Animal Crossing New Horizons Get A Sequel

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been giving players an island escape for almost a year, filling each month with new events and adding to the list of tasks that can be done while gamers design intricate towns filled with flowers, trees, and seasonal decorations. However, as Animal Crossing comes up on its anniversary and lapses back into seasonal events and holidays it already had events for, players may be wondering what will come next for the popular game, and if they might expect a new entry in the series anytime soon.

While there are plenty of collections for players to fill out in Animal Crossing, and plenty of debts that need to paid to Tom Nook for housing upgrades, many players have already completed these game objectives. Because of this, players are left redesigning their islands, or relying on upcoming new Animal Crossing event content to give them new challenges. This can be frustrating for people who enjoy the game, but simply have nothing left to do.

With little left to accomplish in their current town, players may choose to reset their Animal Crossing island and start from the beginning. However, this leaves players rehashing the same challenges they already accomplished in their first save, creating repetitive gameplay with less satisfaction for finishing the game’s objectives. Because of this, some may be ready to know what Nintendo may have planned for the future of the series, and if there will be upcoming DLC patches, or even a sequel announcement, planned for the months to come.

New Horizons Needs More Content Or Another Sequel

While currently there isn’t any news or information hinting on what Animal Crossing may have in store for its players beyond potential upcoming events, Animal Crossing titles have come out regularly over the years, hinting that new projects may not be too far off for fans ready to leave their islands for new adventures. Animal Crossing originally released in 2001, with Animal Crossing: Wild World following in 2005, Animal Crossing: City Folk in 2008, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf in 2012, as well as the spin-off games Happy Home Designer, Amiibo Festival, and Pocket Camp in 2015 and 2017. With this pattern already established, plus the popularity of New Horizons, it’s almost guaranteed that a new title is coming eventually, although it will likely be another year or two (or four) before it releases.

In the meantime however, players can enjoy new content during Animal Crossing Festivale event during February, and look forward to the Super Mario crossover event in March. Hopefully there will be more content on the horizon for players looking to add new challenges and objectives to the list of things they can do on their islands. Adding features to Animal Crossing like “New Game+” or further upgrades to shops and homes could provide new tasks for those who have finished the majority of challenges in their Animal Crossing: New Horizons game. These upgrades could provide more playability and tide players over until news is released for what may come next in the series, and would go a long way towards keeping fans invested in the future.
