The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a long game, and on their journey players will encounter a very large cast of characters. Many of the characters are based on those invented in the Witcher novels and short stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski, but others have been invented for the expansive RPG by developer CD Projekt Red. The Witcher 3 has three main endings for its primary quest, but there are numerous character epilogues as well.

The main character, Geralt of Rivia, is heavily featured in the main endings, but he also receives an extra final moment based on the player’s romantic ambitions. The other character endings provide closure on the wider conflicts happening throughout the Continent. Each character’s ending in The Witcher 3 is decided at some point throughout the game, through dialog choices or actions taken by the character in side quests.

Geralt is inextricably linked to fate, and his associations frequently drag him into the politics of The Witcher universe with far-reaching consequences. Some of those vying for power during the war between the Northern Kingdoms and Nilfgaard are featured before The Witcher 3’s credits roll, as well as a few other choice characters. The future of the Skellige Isles is delineated in one ending, and the fate of the Bloody Baron of Velen is found out. Each character ending for The Witcher 3 can be found below.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – Geralt of Rivia

Outside of the game’s main ending, which is primarily concerned with the fate of Ciri, Geralt is given an additional conclusion with his chosen romantic partner. If the player decides to romance Yennefer, Geralt and the sorceress from Vengerberg retire together to a quiet life of solitude. The ending with Triss is similar, but Triss takes a position as advisor to the king of Kovir, while Geralt still works the occasional witcher contract in his retirement. If the player skips romancing either Yen or Triss – or attempts to romance both women in Witcher 3 – Geralt ends up alone.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – Emhyr var Emreis

During The Witcher 3 Emhyr var Emreis, Emperor of Nilfgaard, is attempting to conquer the Northern Kingdoms of the Continent. Regardless of the fate of his daughter, Ciri, Nilfgaard either wins or loses the war. A Nilfgaardian victory sees the Emperor ascend to even greater power, where he seeks out the dissenters in his ranks. Losing the war has the Nilfgaardian people turning on their ruler, deposing and violently executing him.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – Radovid of Redania

If the players do not assist in the assassination of Radovid, the Redanian king keeps his life and throne of the Northern Kingdoms at the game’s close. The Nilfgaardian Empire’s invasion is thwarted, and Radovid continues the persecution of mages and non-humans that the players witnessed in The Witcher 3’s city of Novigrad.

Players may choose to assist in the assassination of Radovid, and then side with Vernon Roche. After this, Nilfgaard briefly takes control of all the Northern Kingdoms before restoring Temeria’s sovereignty because of constant guerrilla warfare from Roche’s Blue Stripes.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – Sigismund Dijkstra

Siding with Roche instead of Sigismund Dijkstra following Radovid’s assassination succeeds in liberating Temeria, but Dijkstra is the only other person able to consolidate power over the Four Kingdoms. Dijkstra was the head of Redanian Intelligence under Radovid, and eliminating the king for him lets him command the Redanian armies to victory against Nilfgaard, after which he emerges as a ruthless ruler.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – Skellige Nobility

If players choose to ignore the side quests regarding Clan an Craite on Skellige in The Witcher 3, Svanrige Tuirseach gains control of the Isles, inheriting power from his father. If players decide to interfere, either Cerys an Craite, or Hjalmar an Craite will become ruler. Hjalmar continues the nation’s tradition of piracy and pillaging, while Cerys moves Skellige toward a peaceful era.

The Witcher 3 Character Endings – The Bloody Baron

Near Crow’s Perch, fiefdom of the Bloody Baron Phillip Strenger, Geralt encounters a spirit within a tree. Sympathizing with the spirit and freeing it kicks of one of the saddest character endings in The Witcher 3. This results in a curse being put on the Baron’s wife after she is rescued. Her subsequent death drives the Baron to hang himself from the tree. If The Witcher 3 players kill the spirit in the tree or free it before the associated quest is discovered, then the Baron’s wife survives and he takes her on a long journey to seek treatment for the debilitating trauma of her experiences in Crookback Bog.
