While exploring the dangerous wilderness of Witcher 3, players may come across a Monster Nest, and until it is destroyed, the burrow will continue to spawn monsters from its lair. These nests are distinguished on the map by the symbol of a fiendish creature’s horned skull. Players will frequently stumble upon these nests nearby abandoned villages, battlegrounds, or deep within the woods of Witcher 3. Before attempting to destroy a nest, Geralt must slay the monsters guarding the area.
Monster Nests in the Witcher 3 will always spawn the same type of monster, and the species will depend on the region. Therefore, it is recommended for players to research the Bestiary before facing the hostile creatures, as knowing what their weaknesses are could aid in the upcoming fight. Once the beasts have all been slain, players must destroy the Monster Nest by blasting it with an Alchemic bomb. Bombs in the Witcher 3 aren’t purchased from NPCs but are instead crafted using specific ingredients.
To craft bombs in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, players will first need to obtain the bomb’s recipe from a shopkeeper. Three types of bombs can destroy Monster Nests: Grapeshot, Samum, and Dancing Star. Grapeshot and Samum are the two bombs that players will likely find the recipes for early in the game. To make a Grapeshot Bomb, players need Saltpeter x 2 and Calcium equum x 2. Both Saltpeter and Calcium equum can be found in loot crates or purchased from shopkeepers. The Herbalist at the roadside shrine west of Woesong Bridge in White Orchard is an excellent source for buying these ingredients.

Alternatively, Samum Bombs are easier to craft but aren’t as potent in combat in Witcher 3 as Grapeshot. To craft a Samum, players must collect Saltpeter x 1 and Celandine x 2. While Celandine can also be purchased from White Orchard’s Herbalist, it can be found in the wild more frequently than other ingredients. Players can discover Celandine nearby the Herbalist’s hut by looking for small yellow flowers.
After crafting the bombs, players can destroy a Monster Nest in Witcher 3. Make sure to loot the nest after it has exploded, as players can find many valuables and crafting ingredients within the remains. If Witcher fans run out of the bombs, they can replenish their explosives supply by drinking Strong Alchohol, such as a Dwarven Spirit. Such alchemic drinks can be purchased from NPCs in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or crafted.
