Wonder Woman 1984 Cheetahs Costume is Mostly Practical Effects

At CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, it was made clear that Cheetah’s Wonder Woman 1984 costume is mostly practical effects. Director Patty Jenkins is reuniting with her Diana Prince, Gal Gadot, for Wonder Woman 1984. The film is a sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman, which grossed over $800 million at the worldwide box office. This time, however, Diana is in the year 1984, and she has two antagonists to do battle with.

Much like the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer suggests, Jenkins’ new Wonder Woman is even bigger this time around. The action scenes and costumes look even more spectacular, and the cast has added some solid additions to the returning stars. The film has Gadot returning in her role as Wonder Woman, and despite sacrificing himself in the first installment, Chris Pine is reprising his role as Steve Trevor, and Robin Wright returns as Antiope. As for the two prominent villains of the film, Pedro Pascal will be playing Maxwell Lord, and Kristen Wiig is the famous Wonder Woman villain Cheetah.

The CCXP panel for Wonder Woman 1984 streamed live on Twitter, where the trailer for Jenkins’ new sequel debuted, and before the reveal, she shared some interesting details about Wiig’s character Cheetah. When asked by a fan whether the Cheetah costume will be 100 percent practical, CGI driven, or both, Jenkins responded by saying they tried to do as much as they could “practically” in this film. But when it came to Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah, she said it “gets to a place where you end up having to go a little further, and so, it’s got a little help, but a lot of it is very real.”

The trailer and even the character images that Warner Bros. shared showed very little of Wiig’s actual Cheetah look. In the trailer, we see her mostly in everyday clothes, and in the character posters, she has a cheetah-style print on her clothing hinting at her eventual transformation. There’s a lot of mystery still surrounding Wonder Woman 1984, and clearly, the Cheetah costume remains one of the big mysteries.

The new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer did a lot of things right, like, among other aspects, it captured the vibe of the ’80s with the visuals. It even captured this with an action-heavy trailer that was made even more exciting with the reveal of Diana’s new Golden Eagle armor. However, not seeing any real signs of Cheetah in action was a little disappointing, though this urge inside the fans to see what the character will look like may prove to be an intelligent move. The intrigue may keep fans glued to every new piece of marketing that comes their way before Wonder Woman 1984 hits screens in June 2020.
