Xbox Cuts Price of Game Pass & Live Gold In Three Countries

Microsoft is cutting the price of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold in three countries: Chile, Hong Kong, and Israel. While Xbox Live Gold is one of Microsoft’s first online services for its console platform, Xbox Game Pass is the company’s much younger offering that launched in 2017. It’s already been marketed aggressively by Xbox, to the point where gaming accessories for American Girl dolls can be purchased, packed in with a subscription to the service. The video game subscription services offers a regularly-changing library of games for those who sign up to download and play on either Xbox and PC along with access to other services such as the aforementioned Xbox Live Gold, EA Play, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The company recently announced 13 new games for Xbox Game Pass, which includes eight day-one releases. Most of the new games have already been added to the subscription service over the past two weeks, with only a few more set to be made available over the next couple of days. The last three games that have yet to be added to Xbox Game Pass this month include Astria Ascending, Unsighted, and Phoenix Point. On the other hand, several titles have also been rotated out of the service including Drake Hollow, Ikenfell, Night in the Woods, Kathy Rain, and Warhammer Vermintide II.

GameSpot reported on the price cuts of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold for Chile, Hong Kong, and Israel. These cuts will be implemented in October, and they’ll apply to the services on both PC and console. According to Microsoft, the price reduction of its services in these territories is in response to their respective local market conditions, which could be based on each country’s local currency and customer spending power. The company has published the new pricing structure for both services in each of the three countries, which will bring the monthly price of something like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate closer to $10.

In the US, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will still be priced at its current rate of $15 per month. No other countries will be getting price cuts to either Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Live Gold at the moment, although that may change in the future for territories similar to the ones included in this latest announcement. As previously mentioned, it looks like Microsoft plans to dynamically price its Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold services across the regions they’re available in, to make them more accessible to customers in certain countries.

Offering Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold at a more affordable price will definitely help attract more customers to at least try out the service. And with Xbox Live Gold still offering free games every month, with its Games With Gold program, the value of either subscription service increases even further with the price cuts. While it’s unlikely that Microsoft will reduce the price of either Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold in its larger territories such as the US anytime soon, it could still potentially happen if the number of subscribers across the globe increases significantly.
